Default 8th Circuit Court Ruling Handed Down
The lockout remains on.

Could be meaningless if they finish negotiations.

Or it could embolden the owners to take more of a hard line.

Although part of the ruling could force the owners to sign free agents and rookies.

Well done, folks.

Owners, players agree: Ruling won’t stop negotiations

Posted by Michael David Smith on July 8, 2011, 12:38 PM EDT

AP
Anyone worried that today’s ruling allowing the lockout to continue could slow the pace of negotiations to end the lockout should feel good about a joint statement released by the NFL and the NFLPA* hours after the ruling was handed down.

The joint statement from both sides in the negotiation said that the negotiation will go on as planned, and that the appeals court ruling doesn’t change that.

“While we respect the court’s decision, today’s ruling does not change our mutual recognition that this matter must be resolved through negotiation,” the statement said. “We are committed to our current discussions and reaching a fair agreement that will benefit all parties for years to come, and allow for a full 2011 season.”

Those discussions are continuing today. Both sides sound committed to keep the discussions going until an agreement is reached.

I did not have time to read through this. But, wasnt this the court that said neither side would like their decision? On quick glance I am failing to see what the owners would not like.

Good to see they are at least coming forward and saying they will move forward. Hopefully this is not causing the owners to drag feet in the negotiations. Not sure why they would anyway....revenue generating events are coming soon.

The part about being forced to sign rookies and free agents would be bad for the owners.

Signing contracts without knowing what the rules are going to be...yikes.

Because this decision from the 8th Circuit court doesnt prevent the players from pursuing an Anti trust suit against the lockout...
