That's the kind of thinking that leads to the Hall of Mediocrity.
Especially when you start comparing eras, thinking the stats are the same across the board.
Precisely.

Seems like you're always using Swann's numbers to justify letting others in....or excluding 'em.

If all we did was pick a number and say that HoF'ers have to match up to that number in that era, we'd miss out on players who- although they don't match up to some stat geek's standards- still made valuable contributions to their team(s) in their time.

IMO, the HoF is about remembering those types of folks. It's not merely a statfest.
Did you read my first sentence?

And yes I've brought Lynn Swann up but I wasn't the first to bring him up and I won't be the last when it comes to HOF standards.

I watched Torry Holt play for 10 seasons, so probably 140 or so times. Very few times, regardless of the opponent, was he not the best WR on the field that day.

I don't deny it. But, seeing how the Rams' WRs are now absolutely horrid, I can appreciate just how good Holt was. Bruce & Holt made Marc Bulger.

Holt is a tough one for me. Compared to some receivers who are yet to be inducted, it's hard to argue Holt -- Bruce, Brown, Carter, Owens, Moss, and Harrison will all have to get in before him.

And if Holt gets in, where does it leave guys like Rod Smith, Jimmy Smith, Chad Ochocinco, Hines Ward, and maybe even Derrick Mason?

So, it makes me uneasy to let Holt in, even though I do think he was one of the best receivers out there during his career.
Ocho Stinko?? Really??

thats why i just compared him to alot of other guys, and yeah its a def no. there will be tons of guys with similar #'s.

Then you have guys like moss who have have 3k more yards and DOUBLE his tds. It just isnt close.

T.O and Moss should be 1st ballot guys. Both can be aholes, but they are no joke on the field.
You seem to be really hung up on stats. Just because Torry Holt played 10 yrs and Isaac Bruce played 15 years shouldn't be the difference.

Until his final season with the Rams, I think Holt was always considered one of the top 5 WR.

I voted no.......he's close as is alot of others but if Cris Carter isn't in there is not a chance he makes it.

I'd take Tim Brown over him also etc.....

not a first ballot but a def HOF'er. Top ten in yards, ypg, etc. it's not like the hall only lets 3 in per position or something Tory was special in his time without a doubt

Holt should make it but he will have to wait in line. He was better than Bruce who is a fringe HOF candidate. He is 2nd all time in yards/game (Andre Johnson is #1) and top 10 in most categories even with a shorter career than just about everyone ahead of him. The only candidates of his era that are clearly better are Moss and probably Harrison. Holt will get hurt because he wasn't a self promoter like a bunch of the guys who are thought of ahead of him.
