I have to manage that aspect of my officiating career on my own....my assignors only know they have games to cover....

I did not do the youth leagues in my home town.....I do not do games at the HS where my children and I graduated from........and I do not do college games for my or my son's alma mater....

I certainly can officiate those ball games without a problem...but its not worth the hassle
You would think it would be in the league's best interest to ensure that you don't have a crew with 3 members who live in the area of one of the teams in the game they are working.

Not saying it WILL cause a problem, but it just raises another flag when you have questionable calls.

When they start filming in 3D, then maybe I will be in favor of Replay. Then the games can take 5 hours, but it will be spectacular.

certainly is just one additional aspect they can look at to avoid issues....I have one assignor who does do his best to avoid this...but, he books the games from the the HOME side....and when I get my schedule it comes out like....

monday 4;05pm- Westlake
wednesday 4;05pm- South
Friday 4:05pm- Hampton

So I dont know who the opponent might be.....and often I will have to arrange a game swap. I have had to do a few of those away games at times...

until that san diego/denver game i thought he was pretty good.

then he followed that up with the mn/no game where, although the rules he made up helped the vikes, was almost as bad.

now i consider him to be middle of the road.
It makes you wonder if timeouts for commercials is really the only help the league wants from its officials.

The Packers had a player in camp last year whose dad was an NFL ref. I wonder if he's still around.
In the MLB there is the pitcher Randy Wolf who has a brother - Jim that is an Ump. I have seen him do games where Randy pitches, but never as a HP ump when he pitches, but I am not sure if there is a rule about that.
