I'm so pumped up after this Halladay no-hitter that I don't even know if I can think straight. Here are the power rankings from last week, and here are the newest rankings:
32. Buffalo Bills (0-4) (prev: 32nd): The bright side about being the worst team in the league is that you don't have to worry about going to and losing four consecutive Superbowls. 31. Carolina Panthers (0-4) (prev: 31st): The Panthers play tough and the running game seems to be getting started lately. With a rookie QB who could barely win in college starting now, I don't see the guy winning many games in the NFL this year. 30. Detroit Lions (0-4) (prev: 30th): The team looks better than they did 2 years ago but that's not saying much. I'd like to see what the Lions can do once Best and Stafford are fully healthy. 29. Cleveland Browns (1-3) (prev: 29th): The Browns win over the Bengals says more about Cincinnati than it does about Cleveland. The Browns still suck but apparently the Bengals aren't as good as anyone thought they were. 28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1) (prev: 28th): The Buccaneers sit in 2nd place in the NFC South. Beating Cleveland and Carolina, though? Not impressive. 27. Oakland Raiders (1-3) (prev: 25th): Might as well bring back Jamarcus Russell. Bruce Gradkowski is the perfect quarterback for a team that has no ambition of winning anything any time soon. 26. Arizona Cardinals (prev: 22nd): Is anyone else wondering why this team got rid of Matt Leinart? Let the Max Hall era begin. 25. San Francisco 49ers (0-4) (prev: 20th): Cannot play with em. Cannot win with em. Cannot coach with em. Can't do it. This team sucks the low tit. Alex Smith looks more like Alex P. Keaton out there. And no offense to Michael J. Fox, but that's not a compliment. 24. Seattle Seahawks (2-2) (prev: 21st): Great at home but they suck on the road. The trade for Marshawn Lynch is interesting but not sure it makes any significant difference for this team in the short-term. 23. St. Louis Rams (2-2) (prev: 26th): The Rams have finally learned how to win football games. They've now outscored their opponents 50-19 in the last two games. And it looks like Sam Bradford is only getting better with each game. 22. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2) (prev: 27th): I'd like to take this time to give a shout out to Tiquan Underwood who almost single-handedly beat the Colts on that final drive. Not only did Underwood have a few catches, but he also broke up a would-be interception. And oh yeah, he's from Rutgers University! By the way, is MJD back? I think so. 21. Denver Broncos (2-2) (prev: 24th): Kyle Orton looks good (dare I say, better than Jay Cutler) but this running game looks pretty weak. Looks like the automatic 1,000 yard rushers left with Mike Shanahan and Gary Kubiak. 20. San Diego Chargers (2-2) (prev: 23rd): Beating up on a pretty pathetic Cardinals team isn't very impressive but it might give this team the confidence it needs after a rough start to the season. I'm still not sold on the bolts being an elite team this year, though. 19. Cincinnati Bengals (2-2) (prev: 13th): The Browns? Child please! T.Ocho better get the rest of this team doing something or else it'll be time for the Bengals to kiss the baby when it comes to making the playoffs. 18. Miami Dolphins (2-2) (prev: 16th): I've always thought the Dolphins have an extremely lame looking uniform, but it looks even worse when they're getting blown out by 27 points. Don't count the Dolphins out, though. It lost to the Patriots because of special teams but the offense and defense looked pretty good. 17. Philadelphia Eagles (2-2) (prev: 15th): Everybody makes mistakes and this team did it last year when it thought Kevin Kolb was ready to do more than hold the clipboard. Michael Vick can't get healthy soon enough. 16. New York Giants (2-2) (prev: 19th): If the Giants can play like that all season, they're golden. I like to gamble but I wouldn't bet on that happening. 15. Dallas Cowboys (1-2) (prev: 14th): An early bye might be good for this team who struggled in its first two games before taking down Houston in week 3, but will the early bye hurt the Cowboys in the long run? Speaking of run, that's something Jason Garrett might want to consider doing at some point. 14. New England Patriots (3-1) (prev: 17th): Trading Moss tells me that the Patriots aren't looking to win it all this year. New England may be a pretty good team but the defense is going to get torched by the better passing attacks. 13. Washington Redskins (2-2) (prev: 18th): A big win for the Redskins and for Donovan McNabb against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Redskins are an inconsistent team but look for Ryan Torain (no, I didn't stutter) to help add a consistent rushing attack to this offense. 12. Tennessee Titans (2-2) (prev: 7th): Brothers and sisters keep messing up, why does it have to be so damn tough to win? Your problems got me pessimistic. Tennessee stuffed the run against Denver but they couldn't stop the ever-persistent Kyle Orton. Maybe Orton is better than I think, or maybe the Titans just aren't that good. 11. Minnesota Vikings (1-2) (prev: 11th): The prodigal son returns to the place he first played. It'll be interesting to see Favre and Moss playing together. Both are old, both may be past their prime, and both are locks for the hall of fame. I expect there to be instant chemistry here. 10. New York Jets (3-1) (prev: 10th): Speaking of troubled wide receivers, Santonio Holmes returns to the Jets for week 5. The Jets are now undefeated in the AFC East but the East looks weaker this year so that may not mean much. 9. Indianapolis Colts (2-2) (prev: 4th): It's tough losing on a last second 59-yard field goal, but why was this team even in that position in the first place. Get a defense or be prepared to lose games like this. 8. Kansas City Chiefs (3-0) (prev: 9th): The sole survivor, the Chiefs are the only remaining undefeated team. With a dynamic rushing attack, a consistent quarterback, and a lightning fast defense, this team plays football the right way. 7. Chicago Bears (3-1) (prev: 5th): The Bears faced a desperate Giants team with one hell of a defensive line. 9 sacks in one half is pretty atrocious but the Bears made some adjustments to assist with pass protection and it seemed to work in the 2nd half. It was only about 25 minutes of play too late. 6. Houston Texans (3-1) (prev: 8th): Does anyone in the AFC South play defense? The Texans rank up there with the Colts and Jaguars when it comes to awful defenses but they've also got a lethal offensive attack. They put up 31 points this week. Who needs Andre Johnson? 5. Green Bay Packers (3-1) (prev: 2nd): Are the Lions better than anyone thinks or are the Packers just not that good? The Packers are supposed to have a great defense but I didn't see them show up against the Lions and top-tier QB Shaun Hill. 4. New Orleans Saints (3-1) (prev: 3rd): With a lot of injuries in the backfield (Thomas, Bush, Brees), this team is struggling against even some of the weaker teams in the league. They're just missing something from last year but they're still winning football games so you've got to give it to them. 3. Atlanta Falcons (3-1) (prev: 12th): The Atlanta defense looks damn good this year. Aside from that, Michael Turner is running hard and Matt Ryan is playing pretty well. They're all black uniforms are also kind of intimidating. You should fear this team. 2. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1) (prev: 1st): The question on everyone's mind is how good will this team look when Roethlisberger returns. With a bye to aid preparation for Roethlisberger's return, this team might be unstoppable with Big Ben. Heck, they almost beat the Ravens with Charlie Batch at QB. 1. Baltimore Ravens (3-1) (prev: 6th): The Ravens came away with a huge win over the Steelers in week 4. You've got to wonder, though, how the hell did this team lose to the Bengals? Joe Flacco leading a 4th quarter comeback against this Steelers defense, though? Hats off. |

The Packers are supposed to have a great defense but I didn't see them show up against the Lions and top-tier QB Shaun Hill. That said, with Nick Barnett now out for the season (reportedly), Morgan Burnett already out, Chillar possibly out indefinitely and, now, Nick Collins questionable for Sunday's game, an already shaky defense just got a whole lot shakier. Dont expect them to show up too much against the Redskins, either. |

Considering that the Lions should, for all intents and purposes, be 2-2 and that the Packers (and Bears) arent as good as advertised, its a bit of both. It's a good thing the offense is so good, but I still say they could use a RB. |

think the jets are a top 5 team for sure. they are flat out loaded and are about to get pace, holmes and revis back. i definately think they are much better than the bears, chiefs, packers and atlanta. i put them in a class with the steelers/ravens/saints. As for the Jets, I think the offense is playing over its head a bit. Aside from Baltimore in week 1, I also don't think the Jets have faced an elite defense. |

Falcons are 9th in points scored and 6th in points allowed. They've also beaten the Saints & lost to the Steelers in overtime. |

yeah, the falcons are good. top 10 team right now i would imagine. mainly because they top my "luck" power rankings. it's been les miles type luck. good for them. you need that type of stuff throughout the year. i just like the jets better. love that defense. getting three bigtime pieces back. i admit that i am more of less looking down the road a bit rather than just what has happened now. nah, he's right about the jets. AFC east is a crap division. |
