Default Leftwich traded to the Steelers
Steelers acquire Leftwich

The Steelers acquired their former quarterback Byron Leftwich from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a seventh-round pick in this week's draft, according to a team source.

Leftwich could well be the Steelers' starter in their regular-season opener. Pittsburgh also has quarterbacks Charlie Batch and Dennis Dixon, but Leftwich knows the offense and organization well. He backed up Roethlisberger in 2008 when the Steelers won a Super Bowl before he left to sign as a free agent with Tampa Bay.

The latest NFL trade also leaves Tampa Bay with 12 picks in this weekend's draft, which ties the New England Patriots for most in the league.

Crazy to let him go because he is a proven winner.

Not crazy if they are going to prove that NOONE is bigger then the team. This isn't a one time thing for Ben. He has a history. WHile I think it sets the Steelers back as a team I applaud them for doing it if they do. If every team treated its players the same way that could go along way towards cleaning the league up.

Wouldn't that be impossible, as the team trading for the player would not be making the stand?

good pickup by the Steelers.....he's also signed a 1 yr extension.

Roethlisberger is on a REAL short leash and I can see the Steelers dealing him if the right offer came their way.

The Raiders offered #8 for Ben and #18.

The Steelers countered with Ben for #8.

I think a middle ground could be achieved by Oakland getting Ben and #18, and Pittsburgh getting #8 and #39.

I'm not sure if either team will figure that out, though.

I'd be highly HIGHLY surprised if the Steelers dealt Roethlisberger to the Raiders.......that Davis/Rooney feud.....

there is no LOVE there....

and I REALLY don't see the Steelers dealing Ben AND the #18.....

Steelers turned that down already.

It work work out well for the Raiders and piss me off, though, as I'm sure they'd take Iupati at #18.
