Default Mangini to return to return as coach
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4805274

Eric Mangini will return for another season as head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
Browns president Mike Holmgren informed the entire Browns coaching staff that they would return for the 2010 season after three days of meetings with Mangini.

That's some serious spin.

Huh...can't say I expected this to happen.

Unless, of course, Holmgren is setting it up for his return to the sideline after next season.

Maybe he'll fire Mangini after the hard part of training camp is done. He may have learned that from the old man.

Don't you mean that maybe Holmgren will return to return to the sideline?

By interviewing himself for the head coaching job, he'll have satisfied the Rooney Rule requirement. See? There are some benefits to being a diabetic walrus.

Could it be that he was really hoping to get Bill Cowher in Cleveland and since Cowher decided that he wasn't going to come back to coaching this year, that Mangini would just have to do for one more year? I mean Holmgren knows full well that the Cleveland Browns franchise is going nowhere fast in the next season. They have another year of rebuilding at least before they become possible contenders. Why not just throw Mangini out there for one more season, win maybe 5-6 games and then fire him because Cowher is ready to come out.

I think that's not very likely. But using Mangini as an incompetent to stock up on talent... that could work.
