One simple rule change.

First possession for each team in overtime may not result in a field goal.

If the team who wins the toss goes down for a TD, tough crap to the defense that couldn't hold.

You can punt, you can go for it on 4th down, you just can't kick a FG.

my problem with that is if your beyond 15 yards and beat, defenender is better off just tackling the guy.
I like the 15 yard rule as well. I don't like something that's very subjective like Pass interference can dramatically change a game. I don't like it at all. Some referees see a love tap and the ball is on the 1 yard line, some referees don't notice the WR initiate contact and it's down at the 1 yard line. It's the only penalty in football that a team could go the length of the field on 1 penalty. I hate it.

I agree it should be 15 yards, and if the defender is completely mugging the WR, then it should be 15 yard personal foul unnecessary roughness tacked on.

But just regular pass interference should be 15 yards so a bad PI call doesn't change the outcome of the game so blatantly.

Right now a QB can toss a 70 yard bomb and if a WR runs into the DB and trips over his own feet the DB can be called for PI and the offense just gained 70 yards, it's a stupid rule.

There are enough rules which benefit the offense, they got rid of the force out rule, it is time to get rid of the spot foul on PI.

The game has changed to allow more scoring, why do you think the KO's were moved back 5 yards? To allow better field position and more ST opportunities.

I would be quite happy with this.

if no one agreed to it, that would likely eliminate its possibility of happening.

Did I say it had to happen? I said I'd be happy with that.

At no point have I threatened to stop watching the NFL if they didn't change the OT rules.

The simpler the better IMO. There would be some interesting strategy involved as well. Granted it would not be exactly the same gameplay strategy as regulation, but nonetheless I think it's better than completely taking things like the punt and the kickoff out of OT.

Dumb is usually reserved for an argument that offers no alternative to the assertion it criticizes.

That seemed to be the implication, that I was demanding a change and if it didn't happen I would be irate.

Wouldn't yours be a "waddle to conclusions" mat?

Well, I admittedly wouldn't jump. But I could roll my chair over there and put my feet on it.

I see your point, but I worry w/ 15 yard penalty DB's will be more willing to knock down WR's if they're about to get beat deep or good chance....spot foul keep's them "Honest"

but there are bad penalaties...there are PI not called either.

I would think 15 yards plus another 15 yards for a mugging would be pretty severe, and would keep them honest as well. PI is very subjective, that's why I don't like it being a spot foul, it is call that gets screwed up either not called or should have been called.
