Damn, what happened to Sarkisian or Rob Ryan?

I don't like this hire at all.

James Lofton?

BTW, I heard Dennis Green declined an interview request.

But word is that it doesn't mean he's not necessarily interested.

He thinks he shouldn't have to do an interview. Pompous ass.

Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers wide receivers coach James Lofton is reportedly set to become the Oakland Raiders' next head coach. Lofton and the Raiders are working on details of a contract, according to sources. Lofton could be named the team's head coach as early as Wednesday, Jan. 17.

While the Chargers are dragging their feet regarding the future of their head coach, the team's most hated rival appears ready to fill its head coaching position with a Chargers assistant.
Receivers coach James Lofton and the Oakland Raiders are working on details of a contract, sources said Tuesday.

Lofton, 50, who also interviewed with the Raiders after last season, could be named the team's coach as soon as Wednesday. However, one source cautioned, “You never know with these things.”
Lofton is almost certainly concerned about things such as how much control he will have under owner Al Davis and how many of the staffing decisions he will be allowed to make.
Lofton was a finalist for the Stanford head coach's job that went to Jim Harbaugh last month. The Hall of Fame receiver also interviewed with the Buffalo Bills last offseason.
He has been the Chargers' receivers coach since 2002.
Also Wednesday, Dolphins chief operating officer Bryan Wiedmeier told the media in South Florida the team has been in contact with the agent for Chargers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron since the Chargers' playoff loss Sunday.
Meanwhile, Chargers president Dean Spanos continues his silence and, presumably, his deliberations on whether to fire Marty Schottenheimer.
Schottenheimer met with his assistant coaches Tuesday morning, but his job status remained unknown. Several sources within the organization said they had not heard whether Schottenheimer will be retained.
“It's probably not a good sign,” two sources said of the amount of time Spanos is taking, meaning they thought it was a sign Schottenheimer will be let go.
The Chargers had their first 14-win season and put together three consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 1982.
But Schottenheimer's failures in the playoffs could doom him.
While the final decision belongs to Spanos, it does not help that Schottenheimer lacks an endorsement from General Manager A.J. Smith. The two have hardly spoken in more than a year.
Spanos said last month he was waiting to judge Schottenheimer until after the playoffs. The Chargers lost 24-21 to the New England on Sunday in their playoff opener.
Schottenheimer is 47-33 in his five seasons here, 24 more victories than the franchise had in the five seasons before his arrival. But the Chargers have lost in their only two playoff appearances with him as coach, after the 2004 season and this past Sunday. Schottenheimer, 63, is the fifth-winningest coach in NFL history with 200 regular-season victories. But he is 5-13 in the playoffs and is the winningest coach to never make the Super Bowl.

I hope so, but it doesn't appear that way.

This one came out of nowhere for me.

That seems like something Detroit would do.

Hey now, we've got the market cornered here in Minnesota for hiring coaches who are in over their head.

Eg: Mike Tice, Brad Childress

Right, but Detroit is infatuated with WR's. It only stands to reason that they would dig hard for a WR coach.

If you guys want him though, I'm sure he will be available next off season. The Raiders (much like the Lions), seem to hire a new coach every year or so.

McDaniels pops up in Raiders' search

By Jason Jones - Bee Staff Writer

The Raiders' coaching search made a lot of noise Tuesday, even if things were relatively quiet around team headquarters.
Published reports had former Minnesota and Arizona coach Dennis Green and San Diego wide receivers coach James Lofton interviewing for the Raiders' top job.
The San Diego Union-Tribune, citing unnamed sources, reported Lofton was working on a contract to become coach.
A source in team management, requesting anonymity because he is not authorized to speak on the record, said neither was at the Raiders' facility in Alameda on Tuesday. The source said Lofton might interview in the coming days but did not think Green would. A report on ESPN.com, citing anonymous team sources, said Green turned down the Raiders' interview request.
Lofton interviewed for the Raiders' coaching job last season that went to Art Shell. The source said Lofton could be a candidate for another job on staff other than head coach. The Raiders interviewed former offensive coordinator Marc Trestman on Jan. 9 to discuss a job other than head coach.
The NFL Network's Adam Schefter reported the Raiders are waiting for New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to become available for an interview after the Patriots' season is over. If the Patriots play in the Super Bowl on Feb. 4, the Raiders couldn't talk to McDaniels until after the game.
If that were the case, it would extend the search for a new coach to more than four weeks for the second year in a row.

The problem here is that Al Davis will only hire someone who will kiss his ass. That automatically rules out most good coaches and leaves the Raiders with only the mediocre who will take ANY coaching job. The results are predictable.

Hey thats ok thats why the assistant head coach of USC and there QB coach is the leading canidate for the job...and they are also going to try for New englands young OC....which the last time we got a coach from NE he turned out pretty good....Rob Ryan defensive coach..... so i think the results are as predictable as everyone thinks
