from PFT:
SABAN TO 'BAMA CONFIRMED A league source with knowledge of the situation tells us that Dolphins coach Nick Saban is on a plane to Tuscaloosa. So, unless he's going there to scope out a new vacation home, he'll be the new coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Done deal. Farewell, Nicktator. We've enjoyed following your brief NFL career. POSTED 10:16 a.m. EST, January 3, 2007 SABAN FLYING TO TUSCALOOSA? ESPN's Hank Goldberg has just mentioned on the air an unconfirmed rumor that a private jet has left Miami for Tuscaloosa, and that (former?) Fins coach Nick Saban is on it. Goldberg also says there is talk that Saban's agent, Jimmy Sexton, has been floating Saban's name as possibly having an interest in returning to the college game in the weeks before the Alabama rumors got started. And that meshes with our report from a couple of months ago that Saban is unhappy in Miami and would be inclined to head back to the college game. The deadline for Saban's decision was 10:00 a.m. EST. No decision has been disclosed yet. And there's no way, as we see it, that Saban can stay now. The fans, the media, and likely the owner will never be able to trust him in the future, as all involved will assume annually that his departure is imminent. |
