I think that Tony and Joe T will throw down in the booth before the season is over. It reminds me a little of Meredith and Cosell (yes, I'm that old). Cosell often tried intimidate Meredith with his so-called intellect, but usually Dandy Don used brushed him off. He was no slouch, despite coming off as a bumpkin. I do think I remember Meredith pulling out the Jock card though, saying Cosell could never really understand the game at this level because he'd never played it. I wonder if Theisman will try that. |

I've notice the needles from Kornheiser, too. Joe keeps smiling, but I wonder what he's thinking. Joe: "injuries for athletes are different than normal people, we heal faster" Tony "WE?" |

Was anyone else bothered by the fact that we had an Irish band combined with a Cali pseudo punk band on stage for the pre game show?
WIth all the rich history of music in New Orleans i thought it was outrageous to not have a N'awlins band play. I know U2 was involved with Katrina relief but you would think they would have the sense to step aside and let some other local act get some exposure. Doesnt Bono etal have enough money at this point? They did a nice job and all but that kind of bothered me. I mean why didnt they just bring out Elton JOhn and Celine Dion to sing the Anthem. |

What does NO do besides tourism? How do you attract tourism with nothing open? With nothing open, how do people have jobs? If nobody has jobs, how do people get paid to rebuild and live in NOLA? What does reopening the superdome do for the majoirty of the people there? Nothing And look at this statistic. 67% of the people of N.O. were African American. What 70, 80, 90% of the people in that dome were white? You tell me how the people directly affected by the levees breaking were there to see that dome reopening? They couldn't afford a bus to get out of the 9th ward. Little on a ticket to see the saints play It was a feel good story for the rest of the country and maybe a few affected by katrina. But for the majority of the people there I can't see it really helping. And think about this. What is N.O. known for music wise? Jazz mainly and a lot of hip hop artist come from there as well. What bands do they bring to 'help the people of New Orleans'? U2 and Green Day. Seriously. Give me a freagin break. |

the song is for raising money for the Katrina ravaged area....I would imagine that is why they were chosen. I would have liked to have seen the Meters, Radiators, REbirth Brass....anybody but not fucking Green2. |

Then I think its on U2 to give up the stage to the local musicians. And fucking Green Day? You would think U2 would want to let a local act whether it be jazz, zydeco or brass or the vast rock and blues bands have the stage. Dont they already have more exposure than they could ever need? Jeebuz give somebody else a chance to have the limelight....particularly on this night. |

But really, I agree about the choice of music. But they wanted something rocking, I suppose. Harry Connick Jr is not that, and Better than Ezra is the closest (Baton Rouge) local band that I can think of, but who wants to hear them? Plus, it was the whole thing of U2's guitar player starting the fund for musicians and Green Day's stupid "September" song or whatever it's called. |

as for the tourist stuff needing to be open to help the rest of the displaced new orleans residents get back on their feet, working again, back in their homes, etc, that's a load of bull. that money generated from tourism didn't trickle down to those people before katrina why would it now? good to see that all those casinos and tourist attractions are getting federal money. and because poor people don't own homes and instead rent, they get nothing.

N.O. was one of the poorest if not THE poorest cities in America. What does the tourism do for the majority of the people there? Nothing. I didn't do a head count while watching the game, but I'm pretty sure I saw a lot of black people there. A lot of white people, too. But let's not focus on race. Let's focus on New Orleans. The city. What's going to help the city get by? Sink 182 million into houses and cleanup. Hey, I'm all for that. But who is going to live in those houses? What are they going to do for a living? What's going to keep them in NOLA? What did they say last night, just for 1 game, they estimated $12 million dollars pouring into the city. Since I've lived in Louisiana (4 years), I've been to 3 conferences in New Orleans that generated between 500 and 1000 people staying in hotels, eating at restaurants, buying souvenirs, etc for a week. What's going to draw conferences to New Orleans when there's no tourism? You can't have a city without people, but you won't get people without a city. |

What does tourism doing for a majority of the people there? I don't know. What is it not doing for a majority of the people there right now? A lot of the people affected by the flooding in the 9th ward and whereever you want to talk about are in Houston, Atlanta, and God knows where else in the country. How will they be affected by anything that is going on in NOLA right now, forget about football. |
