Default Would Football be as popular?
Would football be as popular if its season went as long as NHL, NBA or Nascar?

I know personally I would watch it all year round, but would the majority of people get bored with it like it do NBA. The only time the NBA is good is the playoffs and even that is pushing it, more like the championship, and only if San Antonio is playing somebody worth a crap. LOL

I'm not sure. If the NFL actually lasted as long as a pro basketball season, then we'd be cheering for players like Rod Smart, Artose Pinner, Desmond Howard, Kyle Turley and the awesomeness(sp) of former U-M QB Elvis Grbac.

What I'm trying to say is that it'll be that much harder for a player to stay healthy if the season was longer. If it was physically possible, I'm all for a longer season, but unfortunately we have to deal with reality.

Agree with Walt. If the season was longer, they'd have to increase the roster size so you could have that dependable 6th string running back from NFL Europe ready to go.

I think they should shrink preseason, but they'd lose a lot of revenue doing that. The season is long enough. As it is many of the teams in the playoffs are there in a given year because they "avoided injuries." When the SuperBowl teams are there not because their teams are Superior, but just because they have the most "starters" left on the roster, that's when the product will actually suck. A longer season would do that.

Not to mention with all the injuries, at least there are 6 months off where these guys can rehab themselves and not miss the next year. If the season were so long, guys wouldn't be "ready by August" anymore. Already some players are rehabbing now and won't be ready a year later...

And that's why I say eliminate the pre-season and just add those four games to the regular season.

I think they take two games off and make the regular season 18 games, it wouldn't decrease popularity at all.

However, as has been mentioned, there's that injury issue and that more games is more cause for injury, and there's already enough guys out every year because of injury.

Very well put. They could cut baseball season in half and I still wouldn't watch until the WS.
