Default New CBA restricts penalties for players
NFL | New CBA restricts penalties for players
Thu, 9 Mar 2006 14:40:27 -0800
ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen reports the new collective bargaining agreement restricts disciplinary action against a player to four weeks. The four week penalty would include weeks when a team decides to deactivate a player for disciplinary reasons. The restriction was put in place after the Philadelphia Eagles suspended WR Terrell Owens for four weeks and then deactivated him for the rest of the season.

I knew this was going to happen.

In a future TO case, that'll force a team to release the player rather than bench him indefinitely (even though you are paying him). That'll change contract specs for troublemakers.

And make certain teams less likely to sign those troublemakers.
