Could we restrict it to quarterbacks on active boards?
Can we include 2nd stringers from active boards as well? I'd be interested in the Garcia vs. Harrington contest...

1. Peyton Manning
2. Donavan McNabb
3. Daunte Culpepper
4. Tom Brady
5. Brett Favre
6. Trent Green
7. Chad Pennington
8. Michael Vick
9. Drew Brees
10. Steve McNair

Oh, and by the way, seeing as the "lifetime achievement award" was brought up, by a Vikings fan no less, Favre in his prime over Culpepper in his prime, without a shadow of a doubt.

why is everyone ranking manning no. 1?
Because he's better than everyone else?

I'll take the highest ranked QB who is also the captain of a ship as my QB any day.

Because he's better than everyone else?
that would be the wrong reason.

Yeah. . .someone who truly doesn't deserve it. Which would eliminate McNabb, Brady, Culpepper, and Manning. I mean, why vote for the best QB when there's a myth to perpetuate?

WOW,shocker gonzo would say that!!!
I would be lying if I said that I didn't agree with him.

They sure did. . .the Packers won 2 meaningless regular season games against the Vikings and got a meaningless division title.

This gave them the right to get embarassed by the Vikings in front of their home fans and in front of a national TV audience after we listened to Packer fans and the national media declare Green Bay to be a dark horse for the Super Bowl.
True, but I could also play devil's advocate and say that only ONE team had a meaningful victory last year -- the New England Patriots. All other wins were comparably meaningless.

Just a random tournament where it's basically "Quarterback A vs. Quarterback B - Which QB do you think is better" deal. Quarterback could be replaced with other positions, as well.
Could we restrict it to quarterbacks on active boards?

3] Daunte Culpepper, MIN
Boy, someone clearly didn't get the memo that Daunte Culpepper is terrible.

If I could throw an opinion out here, this arguement is very E*PN-esque, while some decent points are being made from both sides, fahvra's points may be OVERLY pro-Packer and anti-Viking, while Super Gonzo's are the opposite (too pro-Viking/anti-Packer). Both of you should realize you'll never come to an agreement on this. Not to single out a certain instance, but you know an arguement is going nowhere when a post begins "Stop calling me names, fuckface."
no an argument goes no place when you are talking to a box of rocks.

That's fine, considering that Daunte is still well within his prime.

fuck if he does.
Favre v. Culpepper, 9 January 2005

Favre: 22/33. 216 yards, 1 TD, 4 INT
Culpepper: 19/29, 284 yards, 4 TD, 0 INT

Can someone remind me how that one turned out? Ah, here's someone:

Culpepper > Favre. We're not giving out lifetime achievement awards here, spanky.

It may be. . .but to hear. . .*ahem*. . .some talk about it, he's due to turn into Todd Marinovich/Ryan Leaf/Heath Shuler/(insert your favorite QB "bust" here) sometime between now and August. That line of thinking is fairly ignorant.

Thankfully, most of you who know what you're talking about don't think that way.
none of that EVER came from ANY Packer fans mouth on this board. we all concurred that dunte is going to have a tough time w/o MOSS. the rest of that shit you dreamed up yourself.

The idea was brought up in another thread, but this could be arranged as well as tournaments for other positions as something to do to pass the time until football season starts rolling. What do you guys think?
I think I miss the Madden League.

Hasn't stopped them yet today
Hey. . .if dude wants to sit there and keep saying stupid things towards me, I'm going to keep telling him he's wrong. Particularly when he's wrong. Which is pretty much all the time.

Washed up vets? You mean like

26 year old Fred Smoot, a signing which gives us (arguably) the best CB tandem in the NFC?

29 year old Darren Sharper, a signing which gives us a huge upgrade at FS over what we had?

32 year old Pat Williams, who's regarded as one of the best run-stopping DTs in the game and is a huge upgrade over what we had?

You mean one of those guys? Or do you mean people we acquired in trades, such as

25 year old Napoleon Harris, who was only the starting MLB on a team that went to the Super Bowl his rookie season?

Or 30 year old Sam Cowart, who cost us all of a 7th round pick to acquire and is, in all likelihood, an upgrade over what we had?

Yeah. . .SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO washed up. If all of those guys were Packers, they'd be awesome, right?

It could be far worse. . .we could be signing guys like

Earl "Cleveland thought that Brian Russell was better than me" Little
Arturo "I couldn't pry my arse off the bench in Miami" Freeman
Matt "24 games on IR in the last 2 years" O'Dwyer
Adrian "Ouch, I'm hurt again!" Klemm

While losing nothing but a Pro Bowl caliber safety and 2 of the best guards in the game, all the while acting like it's no big deal and that we're still some sort of great team. That would be worse.
you know which two I was talking about homeslice.

losing 2 guards when we have good depth isnt a big a deal as youre making it out to be. sharper is no where near pro bowl caliber anymore. get over it.

too bad youll never see him get a ring "in his prime".
He's got a hell of a lot better chance of getting his first than your boy has of getting his second. That's for damn sure.
