Default Feb. 15 ESPN Insider - NFL
Jerry Porter
Raiders

Interested - Ravens?, Raiders

Feb. 15 - Kevin Johnson's decision to opt out of his deal in Baltimore could help the Ravens afford to go after Porter in free agency, according to the Baltimore Sun. Porter recently rejected a five-year, $25 million offer to re-sign with the Raiders and plans to test the market.

"I owe it to myself to get my market value, if not (sign with) some team that will pay me more than market value. I owe it to myself to find out (what I can get)," Porter told The San Francisco Chronicle.

Porter, who caught 64 passes for nearly 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns (12th best in the NFL) last season, is still upset Oakland did not offer an extension of his six-year rookie contract in 2004. The 26-year-old WR voided the final year of the deal, according to the newspaper.

Trevor Pryce
Broncos

Feb. 15 - The Broncos have decided to shop Pro Bowl DE Trevor Pryce, reports The Denver Post. The Broncos are reportedly seeking draft picks for Pryce, who was limited to just two games last season due to injury. Tuesday's Rocky Mountain News indicates eight teams already have expressed some interest.

"This is not Trevor's doing. He did not ask for this," Pryce's agent, Peter Schaffer, said. "The Broncos came to us, and this is what they want to do, and I need to help find the best place for Trevor."

Salary-cap concerns (Pryce has a cap number of $9.16 million for '05) and age (Pryce turns 30 in August) are among the leading factors in to Denver's decision. The team also plans to switch to the 3-4 defense in 2005, and Pryce is better suited for the 4-3 alignment.

Jeff Garcia

Interested - Bucaneers?, Lions?

Feb. 15 - Garcia, due a $500,000 roster bonus next month, will be released Feb. 22, two days before his 35th birthday and less than a year since the Browns outbid Tampa Bay to sign him to a four-year, $25 million contract.

According to The Tampa Tribune, one of Garcia's options could be Tampa Bay if the Bucs' negotiations with QB Brian Griese fail.

Other reports indicate the Lions could have interest in Garcia as they look to solidify their "pitching staff," as coach Steve Mariucci has called his QB lineup. But GM Matt Millen reacted mildly to the news that Garcia would be available, telling the Detroit News, "We've all had a chance to look at Jeff, both for the past season and over the years. We know what kind of competitor he is. Jeff's somebody we knew we had to evaluate, and we have gotten all of our work done on him."

Micheal Barrow
Redskins

Feb. 15 - The Redskins have re-signed reserve MLB Clifton Smith to a two-year contract, casting doubt on Micheal Barrow's future in Washington, The Washington Post reports.

"I haven't heard anything of their plans for me. That's not my focus," Barrow told The Post. "The Redskins are going to do what they have to do. I know it's a business. "

Barrow, who didn't play last season due to acute tendinitis in his left knee, signed a six-year, $11.6 million deal last offseason. If the Redskins release Barrow before June 1, he will count about $2 million against the salary cap. If they wait until June 1, the move would count $400,000 against the cap.

Kevin Johnson
Ravens

Feb. 15 - According to the Baltimore Sun, Johnson plans to opt out of his contract and test free agency, passing up a $1.4 million salary in hopes of catching on with a more pass-oriented offense.

Johnson averaged 68 catches in four seasons in Cleveland before being cut midway through the 2003 season and joining the Jaguars. The Ravens traded for him last spring to bolster their passing game, but the slow development of that phase of Baltimore's attack limited Johnson to only 35 receptions last season.
