Default Need a flash for my Sony A200....Sigma or Sony?
I need a flash for my Sony A200, and my choices are...

Sigma EF-530 DG Super - $360

Sony HLV F56AM - $546

Is the Sony worth the extra money, or is the Sigma better to get?

For the price, I would vote for the Sigma, but that Sony should not be that expensive.

It is...here in DK
I checked Amazone.co.uk but they don't ship electronics to DK. And ordering outside the EU will end up cost the same as here in DK.

What about Ebay? Sure, you pay a little more in shipping, but you can save plenty.

Assuming that fails, go for the Sigma. I think the Sony is a bit better, but not at that price.

I couldn't find the Sony on eBay or anywhere else....I guess it's going to be the Sigma.
Thanks for the help Divine_Madcat

One of the next days I will need some more help......to decide which tripod to buy

I went to the store where I bought my A200, and we had a good talk about my needs.

I was told that I might 'only' need the Sony HLV F42AM, but that the Sigma also was a good choice. He told me that the Sony HLV F56AM was maybe a little overkill for my needs....but he also said that it was better than the F42AM.

Where is the Sigma compared to the Sony's?? Like this??:
  1. Sony HLV F56AM
  2. Sigma EF-530 DG Super
  3. Sony HLV F42AM
??

Right now my wish-list looks like this:
  • Manfrotto 055XproB tripod
  • Manfrotto 488RC2 ballhead
  • Sigma EF-530 DG Super flash
  • Sigma 70-300 DG APO Macro lens

Yeah, I would say that is fair placement. Here is a nice comparison between the 42 and the 56:

mhonhner's site is a great place for tech info BTW.

If you mean the Sony F56AM, I think it's too expensive for me....it almost costs the same as the camera

yeah i know its almost same price with the camera...thats why i got cheap vivitar flashes and moded them myself for vari power. if you are into moding flashes and immune to a small electric shock or 2 [thumbup] i would definitely recommend going that way. (some sony flashes are as low as $250 here but still thats almost half the price of the camera again).

almost all vivitar flashes are modable if you are into strobes. but be very careful not to go with a very very old flash. not all older flashes can be used with dslr's. their trigger voltage is very high and can fry your dslr easily

anything vivitar 728AFM and newer will work fine with sony/minolta dslr's. (tho thats not a TTL flash so u need to get the hang of it in time after moding it). older flashes can still be used off the camera, like with an optical or radio trigger.

one thing u can definitely do (also will give you a great deal of flexibility) is check ebay for radio triggers (they should be around $30-40). and buy an old and super cheap flash to go with it. so u can use the flash off the camera as a strobe or bounce flash or pretty much anything.

I can't get any Vivitar flashes around here, so that's not an option. I have been looking at some flashes for some time now, and I think the Sigma is my best choice......if I don't want to use all my money on the Sony 56

well there ya go... i think you have the answer ))))....

i am not sure what other options u might have there... like i said off the camera flashes work very nicely if ur gonna dive into strobist stuff.. it still might be a good idea to get a radio trigger (it goes into the hot shoe) and u can use any cheap/expensive vari power flash off the camera... opens up a new world of possibilities thats for sure...
