I see what you wanted to achieve, and it should be sweet, but you overdone the HDR effect,
there's a lot of halo visible around the tree.
Also the picture looks like it's divided in the middle, something like left side being under exposed and the right side over(or correctly) exposed...
look at the skies on the left and right....
as said by others, many times before: a good HDR does not look like an HDR photo,
although some photos could gain an artistic touch if slightly overdone.

I think you should try to convert them again, with much less effect. your goal should be a real looking photo. you were just trying to save blown out and shaded data, remember?

keep at it mate, and thanks for sharing!

yeah unfortunately the sky behind the tree stayed over exposed and as i tried to get it darker hdr effect got exaggerated on the left. i'll try to re do it, but i wish there was a way to darken the sky behind the tree so the pic wont be looking too divided or tree wont be looking so out of place.

I kind of like the divided look. If the sky behind the tree were a little less washed looking and more sky looking, it would be much better. I'm not a photographer, but the divided look is certainly interesting. [yes]

Hmmm I'll have to look into this. Are there a certain version of Photoshop that does this. I have an ancient copy of Photoshop 5. Will I have to upgrade to CS2?

Any good links you can give me on how to do this?

as far as i remember its cs2 and cs3 that does it, also there are some plugins and other software that only does hdr merging.

Here's my effort using Photomatix:

I did try to exaggerate it a bit , but it actually is possible to make it look 'real'...

that looks nice, it looks like u kept the strength of the effect very little and a little too much saturation. the one i made looks like it was taken on jupiter [rofl]
