Default Indie Rock/Alt?
I've been tripping on Gorillaz (I know, not indie), The Appleseed Cast, Minus the Bear, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Imogen Heap and some other bands lately, anyone have some recommendations for me?

Instrumental stuff like Godspeed You! Black Emporer would be apreciated as well. [thumbup]

Stars, Say Hi to Your Mom, Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service, Elliott Smith, The Killers, Modest Mouse, and Pinback are all really, really good indie bands.

Interpol, Aloha, Andrew Bird, Colour Revolt, Dear and the Headlights, Denali, Feist, Land of Talk to name a few. And if you want some chill out music (similar but not totally like Godspeed) try Explosions in the Sky, or for a technoy kind of thing check out Bonobo...easy man.

Some others:

Von Spar-S/T - brooding electro/noise/post-punk
TV on the radio-Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes - Think QOTSA mixed with dance

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum- all (unclassifiable)

Talk Talk-Laughing Stock - One of the first post rock albums (and best)
Deerhunter-Cryptograms - Rough round the edges indie
Caspian-The four trees - solid post-rock
65daysofstatic-all - Electro-math-indie (one of my favourite bands)

If you're looking for instrumental stuff, try Pelican or Red Sparowes. Early Pelican stuff sounds like the soundtrack to plate tectonics... Red Sparowes is a little calmer.

If your looking for some ambient music, take a look at iambic2. as well, only just giving the album a proper listen through at the moment, and its free currently as well.

Maybe if you like the gorrilaz, you'd like the new UNKLE album, war stories. It's not quite as... young. It's pretty good, though. Not sure if you'd call it "indie", mind. From the bands you list, maybe you'd like the Klaxons.

Can everyone please stop asking whether it's indie or not.

Who gives a ****. It's music and that's all there is to it.
