Photo copyright Malcolm NasonR&AW, Indian external intelligence agency is supposed to have purchased two Bombardier jets to be packed with Israeli ELTA multi-mission airborne reconnaissance and surveillance systems. They will replace the two 21-year-old Gulfstream jets used now and are expected to daily collect electronic and ground intelligence 180 km inside Pakistan and China borders. To be ready by 2014, the planes will be installed with synthetic aperture and electro-optical radars.
R&AW’s Aviation Research Centre (ARC) is said to have 30 airborne assets for intel collection. Its Boeing 707 and Gulfstream jets have antique analogue radars. The Global 5000 jets were originally for a Maltese customer. |
