DRDO is developing a space suit for ISRO's plan for a human space flight program scheduled in 2016. Bangalore-based Defence Bioengineering and Electromedical Laboratory (DEBEL) is the nodal agency and is a part of DRDo Life Sciences with programs in life support systems, technical textiles, and materials. Indan astronauits are scheduled to be called vyomanauts.

Mysore-based Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL), will develop the menu for the Indian astronauts.
