Default B-24 Liberator With the Indian Air Force
Consolidated B-24 Liberator was an American heavy bomber, built by Consolidated Aircraft of San Diego, California. Indian Air Force operated 42 B-24s, which were restored by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and were put into operation with No 5, No 6 and N 16 Squadrons. The planes were left behind after World War two by the RAF at Chakeri airfield, Kanpur. The aircrafts came with American pilots and used to fly it over the Hump to China for supplies. It served IAf for almost 20 years from 1948-68. With a 3000 mile range it served as a attack and sea surveillance aircraft.

Liberators played useful roles in India - pakistan war in 1965 war and in Goa liberation was in 1961. In Goa, the bomber flew low dropping leaflets asking the Portuguese army to surrender and it unnerved the Portuguese army. The Liberator also photographed Mount Everest and map the Himalayan ranges.
