The Israeli cabinet approved Alenia Aermacchi M-346 Master trainer aircraft for its Air Force and will begin replacing Douglas A-4 Skyhawk trainers in 2015. The the new instructional airplane Italian M-346 along with a combination of the F-15 and F-16 will be used for training pilots.

It was chosen over South Korean KAI T-50 Golden Eagle due to safety advantage of having two engines. The plane will train pilots for advanced aircrafts Israel is inducting like F-35. Skyhawks have been in Israeli service for 40 years and is a fighter plane and not designed as a trainer.
