Shri T. S. Sankaranarayanan is right in saying that The position is to be respected. But I want to understand what attracts people towards Nityananda? If some thing special is not there is it possible to fool people.
I read this which says that the present Mutt head of Madurai had a dream where Nithyananda's name was given by Lord Shiva.
read this link:Madurai Adheenam defends decision to appoint Nithyananda | newKerala.com, 18694

May be Nithyananda had some so called scandal in the past and has turned a new leaf and God is giving him a chance to serve people again.

We might not actually know the Karma of Nithyananda.
He could be destined to lead the Mutt for all we know.

Every saint had a past and every sinner has a future!

Let me add a postscript to the above. The sinner has to confess first.

In addition, nityananda has got the kshtriya qualities (porgunam - madurai adeenam's words, not mine). He has already launched a full verbal warfare with his dissenters. He has created a murmur for quoting gita instead of limiting himself to tamil saiva scriptures. He may change the mutt's thousand year old tradition to the dismay of many. If he cannot maintain the ancient traditions of the mutt, he must renounce and concentrate on his jnana peetam's activities.

Isn't that better having an amalgam of shaiva and vaishnava knowledge?
Don't we need unity in diversity?
I would surely support a person who seems all forms and all doctrines as one.

I don't support a large biriyani thali with everyone getting the same mouthful.

Multiple systems and sidhdhantams must co-exist. I don't subscribe to advaitam.

Large Biryani Thali way of eating is only practiced by Non Hindus here!LOL

Advaita does not mean diluting diversity.

When a river flows into a sea..the river is not lost..it's just that the sea welcomes it.

At the end of the day after the Mahapralaya everything goes back to dissolution mode.
So what exists in our minds now will cease to exists one day and the cycle repeats.

A sinner only need to confess to God.
So everybody can be a sinner and hope to become a saint by confessing privately to God! Better yet you can confess to the priest in Catholicism and you will be absolved. There is loophole in Hinduism, especially Vasihnavism, that even if you are a hardcore criminal if you utter the name of nArAyaNa at your deathbed (like ajAmiLan did) you go to vaikuntham.
