VADODARA: Ramilaben Govindbhai Patel hasn't been to college. But at 43, she earns what some CEOs take home. Nothing fancy here. She milks cows every day and supplies milk to a dairy co-operative. She milked Rs 1.10 crore - Rs 1,10,17,675 - net profit in 2011-12, to be precise!


At Pentarpura village in Sabarkantha district, Ramilaben's dairy farm churns out 5.55 lakh litres of milk per annum. What had started as a backyard business in 2000 is now a full-fledged family business. She is an outstanding success story of the change the White Revolution has brought about in Amul capital.


Twelve years ago, Ramilaben registered herself as a primary milk producer at Pentarpura's dudh mandali (village level milk society) and took a bank loan for five cross-bred cows. Today, she runs 'Jai Ranchod Dudh Utpadan Kendra', which is a five-acre home to 280 cattle where 40 workers get employment, even though the farm has four automatic milking machines.


She and her husband Govindbhai visited Israel last year to finalise plans to set up a calf-rearing farm alongside a fully computerized 'tabela'.

thanks for liberal praising words.i heard one more information.during excess quantity of milk production beyond the anand requirement ,if the procurement price is reduced , they will not supply the milk. they will pour the milk in drainage such like tamilnadu farmers destroying of tomato when the price fall below a reasonable rate cos the rate offered is not sfficient even the transportation charges

I think she is copying the US in that regard. In the US there is what is known as a support level for milk or grain prices. If the market price is equal to or below their cost they don't sell their products. They empty the milk into the sewer, and burn the wheat in their fields. There is one protection though. The US government (despite their proclamation of free enterprise sink-or-swim philosophy) pays those farmers subsidy so that they don't starve. The Gujerati milkmaid must distribute her milk freely to poor folks in and around her village instead of dumping it. It is so cruel to do so when so many poor people can get good nutrition from that without paying for it. Will somebody intimate this to her? She doesn't have to even advertise. People can visit her farm and collect the so-called surplus. They can convert whatever they cannot consume quickly into products like ghee, govA etc., and store them for future use.
