Criteria in my mind - please feel free to debate on this...
1. It should have really moved you.
2. It should have really spoken to you personally.
3. It should have made you say wow.
4. It should have decent enough lyrics
5. It should have the hallmarks of the composer - GR means pizinjufy and provide the beauty of a raaga or a trademark ganeer melody, MSV means soothing lilting music, KVM means catchy tune, Raasa means all round composition (prelude + tune +interlude + orchestration), Rahman means very catchy melody .. again no hard and fast, but the numbers should immediately point to the composer.
6. Uniqueness and originality - inspiration is allright - but not copy .

This is a special song as it specifically marks the contribution of stage plays to early thamizh cinema. This song has roots in "Natya sangeeth" tradition of marathi stage which influenced Swami Sankaradas..
A small clue as to "Natya sangeeth" tradition - please get Pandit BhimSen joshi's hindustani albums covering this genre... - simply songs used in stage plays.

4. ராஜாவின் பார்வை ராணியின் பக்கம் (டி எம் எஸ் / சுசீலா / அன்பே வா) தொடக்க ஹம்மிங் முதல் முடியும் வரை நம்மை ஆட்கொள்ளும் பாடல்! தமிழ்த்திரையில் தோன்றியவற்றுள் மிக மிக அழகிய காட்சிகள் என்றால் இந்தப்பாடலின் தொடக்கத்தில் வரும் ரத சவாரி கண்டிப்பாய் இருக்கும். தொடக்க இசையும் அதே போல. உலகின் மிகச்சிறந்த இசைத்துளிகளில் ஒன்று இது என அடித்துச்சொல்லுவேன்!

5. விழியே கதை எழுது (யேசுதாஸ் / சுசீலா / உரிமைக்குரல்) விழி இழையில் அதிகம் இது பற்றி எழுதியாச்சு
