My mom was humming her all time favorite 'malaiyil yaaro' continuously this morning. She was shocked when she heard this news this noon

Lastly she sang 'rangu rangamma' in Beema I think.

In a shocking news for South Indian film industry, renowned singer Swarnalatha passed away on Sunday due to lung related disease.

The 37-year-old Swarnalatha breathed her last at a private hospital in Chennai. The family sources said that she was admitted to the hospital following lung related problems.

Swarnalatha worked with several noted music director, including AR Rahman and others. She bagged National Film Awards for the best playback singer in the year 1995.

She was one of the greatest singers in South Indian Film Industry. She lent her voice to several languages songs, including Hindi Bengali, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Urdu and Malayalam.

She hailed from Palakkad in Kerala. She started her singing in 1989 with many music directors. She has lent her voice to hit songs from films including Thalapathi (1991), Thevar Magan (1992), Karuththamma (1994), Bombay (1995), Indian (1996), and Minsaara Kanavu (1997).

The entire film industry has mourned the sudden demise of Swarnalatha.

'Ennulae ennulae' from Valli is one of my very favorite songs Always thought why she isn't singing a lot now a days. May be some health problem. RIP.

Such a unique/expressive voice. Most of the songs sung by her could not have been sung by other singers. Ennulle, maalaiyil, ooradangum, evano oruvan, poraale etc. What a loss RIP
