I am not sure of 2007.
But I am fascinated by this topic and could not resist posting this. Going a few years back, 2003 reminds me of 'Uyirin Uyire' and 'Saami' songs. in 2002, it was 'Oh Podu'. Some more years back, in 1999, it was 'Uppu Karuvaadu'. in 1996, it was 'Musthafa'. f we go more than a decade back, it was : 'Chinna Chinna Aasai' and 'Inji Iduppazhagi' in 1992. 'Povoma Oorkolam' in 1991 (I do not recall any song which has been as ubiquitous as this - in or after the 1990s; that too without all these FMs and satellite TVs. - when I say 'in or after 1990s' - yes, there were similar songs in the past - see the next one...) 'Maanguyile Poonguyile' in 1989(?) - any doubts on its popularity ??? |

We've had at least one or two songs in the past years that would have been ubiquitous i.e heard everywhere, wherever we turn to.... in FM stations, whichever we tune into, T.V. Channels, light music programs, any stage shows, Any T.V Programs, mobile ringtones etc., For e.g in the year 2005 we had Suttum vizhi sudare from Ghajini, last year we had atleast 2-3 songs, Vaazha meenukum song, Paartha mudhal naale from Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu, and evergreen Munbe vaa song from Jillunu oru Kaadhal. Irrespective of the fact whether the song deserves such credit or not, these song have been massive hits....
Which song(s) can claim that kind of status for this year? Ideally Sivaji songs shud have been such kind, but poor publicity for the songs (at least in T.V channels) pegged back its popularity IMHO... Kaatrin Mozhi song has been a huge hit, but I dont think it is a hit in mobile sector.... |
