Hello Balaji...

Using Karnatic based songs in Devotional Movies (Puraana padangal / Bakthi padangal) is no need to discuss, like Thiruvilaiyaadal, Sraswathi Sabatham, Dheivam, Thiruvarul...etc. Because they all based in Karnatic only.

But karnatic based songs in social movies are somewhat interesting. For example:

"Manamey muruganin mayil vaaganam"....by MSV ( Motor Sundaram Pillai)

"Raagavane Ramanaa Ragunaathaa"...Ilaiyaraja (Ilamai kaalangal)

"Kannodu kaanbathellaam"..... ARRahman (Jeans)

I dont which ragas these songs belongs to, I am not that much familer in ragas.

Kannodu kaanbathellam - Mix of both Aaberi or Sudha dhanyasi

Raagavanay ramanna - Should be kalyani

Manamay muruganin - lovely song . Radha Jayalakshmi
I need to find out


By the way :

1. Andhapurathil oru magarajan / Andhi varum neram - Maya maalava gowlai

This is one of IRs favourite ragas

IR also uses Kalyani quite frequently . For instance :

1. Amma endru azaikatha uyir illayay / janani Janani . Its a big list


Nadha vinothangal ( salangai oli ) - Vasantha


MSV and G Ramanathan also have been pioneers in using Carnatic ragas.

Of course KVMahadevan mostly uses Carnatic base only

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Wish to intitiate discussion on this topic. I am not sure whether this topic already exists but I wish we share all our database on this as this will quite useful for all of us to even know more about carnatic music.

My perception is , its easy to learn carnatic music through Cinema medium as WE ALWAYS REMEMBER A CINEMA SONG MORE EASILY THAN A CARNATIC RAGA. This is my experience .
