I don't think NSP has the party branding required to win a seat. At least, not yet. There is also a variety of brand name. NSP is generally a moderate brand name like SPP. Not like WP, but not like RP and SDA either. For PAP, they can win with a lousy team. Look at the high profile SDP team in Bukit Timah clinching 40%, which is high for a damaged brand name. If the team was replaced with WP logo, it could have been 2 GRCs falling. A team of Nicole, Hazel, Jeanette, Harn Ho and Noraini Bte Yunus will stand a good chance in Marine Parade, and it will be an all woman's team. |

Ironically, the PAP may be able to save itself if it changes back to single wards. The circle is coming full, and yes, the pendulum is swinging back... |

doubt it. Most of PAP members are without charisma. They have succeeded beyond their wildest dream to bring up a bunch of technocrats who can't canvas for votes to save their own lives. Almost all are there to get branded an MP to boost their own careers and wealth. The party will need to be become a minority party before they can change internally, just like the Japan's LDP and Taiwan's Nationalist party. |

Ironically, the PAP may be able to save itself if it changes back to single wards. The circle is coming full, and yes, the pendulum is swinging back... There are a lot of good solutions out here in the blogosphere, but judging from the NDR speech, they still don’t get it. Xenophobia, one–eye dragons. These are unfortunate labels which will come back to haunt them in 2016. History will be kind to LKY. The new leaders however, when they lose the grip on Singapore within the next few elections and see its glory days over, will wonder what went wrong. But they are so detached and cushy, bank accounts full, that they don’t really care. Let the other guy handle the mess they created. A few good men with good hearts. That’s all we need. Not more lemming-like intelligent beings with an incestuous approach to policy making devoid of common sense. Good policies make for good politics. GKS understood this decades ago. |

Hard to say. Their MPs have never really been battle tested, most of them riding in on the coattails of the GRC system. And this is so patently clear when they can’t even handle the F word thrown at them. Mano e mano, they know they’ll likely lose more seats in an SMC system. Hence the invention of the GRCs. But they’ve painted themselves into a corner when they lost one last year. The PAP backpedalled after GE 2011. They have been busy re-strategizing, especially on the online battlefront. Then again, they are so out of touch with the ground that their feeble attempts to engage online degenerates into the same old threats and bullying. A politician's job is to get into public office and stay there. Most of what the PAPzis do and have done is to do the same. The worse thing Singaporeans should think is that the PAPzis work for them. That this is totally false should not be a surprise and should no longer be within the mindset. The social contract between citizenry and politician is such that we vote them into office for them to do their work for us for a fee. If they do a good job we continue to vote them in. If they falter then we vote them out. Politicians may falter for various reasons as they wield power over many types of resources including human resource. The PAPzis are not stupid people. Of course they know that the MRT is overcrowded. They know that HDB flats are costly. They know that they haven't built public hospitals for almost two decades if not for the recent Khoo Teck Phuat joke. They know how much each one of them will be earning if they were in the private sector. They know what they're doing when they allow over a million FTs with possibly or easily another million coming in the next 5-15 years. They know wages will be pushed down due to influx of FTs. They even know how the low and middle income elderly cannot afford effective and affordable long-term medical treatment. They also know that Singaporeans will survive by renting out their flats or downgrading or even forgoing medical treatment if they are ill. The PAPzis can lose 2 more GRCs and still retain 2/3 of parliament. People have to get real to aim higher but first they must realise what kind of a political party the PAP is and whether they want such a group of people to govern them. They know everything we know and they know even more. Please do not fool yourselves into thinking that they are stupid or that you are smart and have thought these things and why they didn't. Oh please! |

In my opinion, Tan See Jay, AYG and ML would have already won a GRC if they campaign under the WP banner in GE2011. Under SDP, they had more publicity as SDP's key team. In WP, the key team was Aljunied and the press hardly covered the other WP teams. The press needed to spread the news among parties. |
