Default Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You - Ask What You Can Do For Your Country.
The late President JFK had the habit of using many metaphor to get the support of his audience
One famous one in the 60's was as follows:

“And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country.”

Do you feel that this statement is applicable in Singapore more today then the period following our expulsion from Malaysia?

But someone "asked that civil servants be paid very well lest they corrupt"
and that "they be pegged to the top echelons of the private sectors."
