Luxury Cars, Sentosa Cove, ...HOW CAN THEY NOT SEE??!!

I spoke to ex-CHC member this weekend. He left the church about 2 years ago and found a small chapel when he now goes to worship. He spent part of his teenage years going to the church and in a sense, he grow up with the church. The charismatic pastor, the friendships, the activities and the faith form a large part of his life for 6-7 years.

Now looking back, he wonders why he could not see what was so obvious to people outside the church. The church activities kept him busy and focused. He accepted much without question because he was comfortable and at home with the church and the many relationships he was so deeply bond. You can say he did not want to doubt...why doubt when you do not want anything to change.

His turning point came when the fundraising activities intensified. At that time he had to support his family, 2 sisters, because his dad had been retrenched. While the cell group leaders were caring and sympathetic, he felt they did not see the importance of him needing to support his family whom he loved dearly. He was quite torn apart and the straw that broke the back was when he was told he was behind on his tithe and contributions to the church. Unable to face this situation, he left the church "temporarily" to worship at a small chapel in Bedok. He found they have different practices and emphasis. He also had more time as the church activities are not so intense. He also joined the new cell group from that small church. After the first cell group meeting, the new cell group members -he felt quite at home with. The cell group leader a middle aged teacher of modest meansr spoke to him after the meeting to get to know him better. After the 2nd meeting, his cell group leader handed him a small envelope, in it was some money. The cell group leader told the rest of the cell group about his plight and they pool together a small some of $80 each voluntarily to help him through his financial difficulties. Every month for the last 8 months they have helped him. For a change, instead of taking money from him in his time of need, they reached out to help him. Many of these cell group members of his current church are not rich, they were housewives, tuition teachers, etc.

During this time, he had more time to reflect on his period at the CHC. He could see the CHC and KH for what they are more clearly and the little deceptions played on the members of CHC. In the early 2000s when KH upgraded to luxury condo from HDB, it raise a few eyebrows, the explanation was he came from rich family and money came from his family -this is later found to be untrue. As KH's spending increased luxury cars, Sentosa Cove and expensive suits, the story was Sun Ho is a mega-star and her success brought millions to pay for KH's lifestyle. Again this is deception -now we know that church money flowed to financed the lavish lifestyle of KH and his family. Even in his time of need, they were taking from him and demands were put on him to fund the lifestyle of the elders.

Over time he realised he was exploited and naive but he has forgiven KH and gang. Howvever, he wishes to relate his story so that no others will fall into the same trap and schemes of the CHC. #1 Join Date: Posts: Nov 2007

Yes, thats the problematic thing about religion. It tucks at the emotion. Rational thinking gets thrown out. History is full of religious/cult leaders running foul of the law and falling from grace. As long as there are gullible weak minded people, there will be such leaders milking these fools.
