That the Entire World Understands
Being involved in the Advertising and Printing trade for five decades I have observed that there is a universal language that every living being understands without going to a school to learn it. It is not at all that difficult to learn. There is no specific or extensive vocabulary necessary to speak this language. It is very simple and it comes built in to most people as a natural option. Very rarely can one switch off this option if one is born with it. If you have not already guessed what this language could be, it is known as a SMILE. One could say, that the basic currency of kindness is in paying it with this universal language. Even though it is a very simple language you might wonder why people still have a problem using it. Unfortunately, It is not reliable to see this language practiced in its true sense when you switch on a TV, when you are in a local Sari shop or when you get into an Aircraft on a journey. The salesman smiles as long you buy a sari. If you don’t buy one then don’t expect any more smiles from him. Advertising world is one of artificial friendliness. Therefore by far it is not true friendliness. Advertising smiles are just professional. On and Off, On and Off. Hard drawn up naturalness. Therefore it tires quicker than you could imagine. On many long haul flights to various countries I have closely watched many interesting things. The stewardesses or the cabin crew have been coached to greet you and smile when one boards the flight and finally when you disembark. You see this friendly face smiling less and less as your flight advances towards your destination. May be they too are human beings who tend to get tired being attentive at some stage during a long flight. However, you may miss the smiling faces in your day to day life travelling by bus or at the railway station where employees responsible public transport are never taught to smile to make us happy while we are dependent on these people. Serving with a smile is a strange habit to these people. There are different kinds of smiles too. A smile that emanates from a child’s face is the most natural kind and it can be trusted. This type of smile is rarely faked. As a child grows into adulthood he or she starts facing the facts of life. It depends on how the journey through childhood to adulthood has been. Irrespective of being rich or poor happiness is a state of mind that is not the exclusive property of one or the other. It is the circumstances under which the child moves into adulthood that makes the difference and the way one smiles does give away what hurdles one has had to go through. Children of rich parents don’t always have a happy transition to adulthood that also can be hard if a child is pampered too much and does not grow up mentally. Rich or poor the smile that is produced by a child is mostly the most innocent. If everyone in the world could smile as innocently as a child that should make the world so beautiful. Honest people can always smile. Be honest so you can keep smiling it will spread soon and the world will be better place. |
