Congratulations. If you bought an iPod Nano between September 2005 and December 2006 you may qualify for a free replacement iPod.

Owners of the first generation iPod Nano got a message from Apple Saturday warming them that their device could overheat, and warning them to stop using their device.“This issue has been traced to a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect,” Apple said in a note to potentially affected customers. “While the possibility of an incident is rare, the likelihood increases as the battery ages.”


Apple urged users to its website to order a replacement unit. Once there, customers will need to check their iPod’s serial number, with Apple, to confirm they qualify for a new iPod. Apple says the replacement units six weeks after they recieve each customers iPod.

However, Apple users with customized iPods won’t get customized replacements. Apple also urged customers back up any data on their iPod nano before sending it in for replacement
