I used to point at rainbows but was told that I would soon lose my fingers. It freaked me out, however, no one could explain to me why I would lose my fingers. I'm still puzzled!!!
I have noticed that a lot of Thai people cannot explain some of the beliefs they believe. Recently, I have thought about whistling in a house that we are not allowed to do. I tried to find an answer and doubt that they would believe me. I reckon that the reason we are not allowed to whistle in the house is because maybe it's too loud and they (members of the house - mainly an old generation) find it's annoying; but Who Knows!!!???? Funny thing is, we believe them because of the way they say. They make their sound so scary in stead of giving reasons. |

Good evening! I live in the United States and occasionally go to a Thai restraunt in my neighborhood. I was eating my dinner and it had been raining outside and I saw a beautiful rainbow. When my waitress came back to my table, and I pointed the rainbow out to her to see. My waitress said that it is against their custom to point at a rainbow, and so I apologized. I was wondering if someone that knows of Thai beliefs and customs can share with me the meaning of rainbows?? Thank you for your time.

But I think pointing at rainbows is considered bad luck in many cultures. Certainly here in Wales I have always been taught you shouldn't point at at rainbow or you will get bad luck. David |
