I got this account from a Thai who read the link in Thai and explained it to me in English:
Thairath sent a reporter to verify whether there were really deaths in those areas previously mentioned, which occurred after answering cell phone calls. He found no deaths. Instead he was able to trace the root of the rumor.

Seemingly, there was an old woman who got a call informing her that her son had passed away. She got shocked and suddenly died.

That was it! LOL

What is Persona 2 about?

Yesterday I was talking with a couple of Thais who had read this news and found it funny. We did not focus on superstitions, but on how an original message can we so warped as it passes on from one person to another. We were all reminded of a game called "Rumor Clinic" (perhaps it is known by others with another name), mostly used in Communications courses.

In this game, a NEUTRAL message (a FACT) is told to Person 1, who tells it to person 2, person 2 passes it to Person 3, and down the line. After many people have been told ( let us say 10 of them), we check the last message and it is so amazing how the original story has been changed in the process!

In processing the game, some of the usual insights or learning points that surface include:

-Some people cannot transfer a message accurately because of poor listening skills or poor memory or poor language skills
-Some like to embellish the story with juicy bits to make it more interesting
-Some inject their own beliefs which now color the FACT
-Some use the message for launching their own agenda

In my opinion, I think this rumor is ridiculous. May be this rumor its about the company who provide phone numbers its about the business. Some thai ppl like to have a lucky phone number for example: 08 999-9999 or the numbers that look nice and they sell these number for a ridiculous price some number can be more than 100,000 baht. I give you a link to show you how its work.

There is no need to pay a lot of money.

But its just my view point.
