There is one district in Sakhorn Nakhorn province in Isarn which is well-known for eating dog meat. But it's only the meat of a specially bred black dog - and it's not cheap. Absolutely not any old dog off the street!
Never heard of this before, i meaning buying dogs off locals. Or could there be a trade of exporting dog meat into China? Or neighbouring Cambodia? |

As someone who has spent nearly a quarter of a Century working as a Gardener in the Parks and Gardens here in England. I have had the pleasure of standing in Dogs mess almost daily. I must say it is a pleasure to go to Thailand where the offending excrement soon bakes in the hot sun and turns to dust if stepped upon. |

Some of the Soi dogs have very big gaping sores and other skin diseases too.. Quite sad.. Seen many of such dogs near Nang Nak Shrine the one and last time I was there... |

I seriously don't think I am being especially thoughtful or kind as I am simply echoing the words of those animal welfare activitists such as SPCA and Soi Dogs org here in Thailand, without doing anything much in practice (except for the mere simple act of using animal-friendly toiletries that don't even require much effort anyway). My sister is the one who is more vocal and active about the plight of mother dogs in puppy mills
Anyway, I hope the dogs in the cooking pots don't suffer so much before they meet with their demise I know there will be people out there who feel that eating dogs is akin to eating poultry etc. I have a friend who said this to my other friend when the latter commented on her dog-eating diet. It is true to some extent. Then again, there is always that age-old concern and sensitivity about dogs being human's best friend... Maybe I'm reading too emotionally into it; but the fact that the dogs are heard to be wailing loudly seems to attest to their feelings of grief, fear, and maybe... betrayal? after having served the household so well as its guardians by keeping off intruders etc =( |
