I have spent a lot of time here since the early 60s when that little thing was going on in Nam, and came here often to party for my month ashore when I was working in the Arabian gulf area, I have not drank in 27 years so none of that anymore but I have never been screwed over since I have came here and lived in Chiang Mai twice and mostly at a home in Nongua and have driven many times to Nong Khai for a crossing into Vientiane for tourist visas and since giving that up have driven 2 times to BKK and 5 trips to CM for extensions, I was charged a fine once in Phetsanulok for no seat belt use and at the cop shop was charged 100 baht, and caught at a speed trap at Uteratidit[sp] at 135 on radar in a 90 zone was fined 200 baht which I paid with a postal money order and my license was mailed back to me.
I have never ordered Ice delivered because we have electric fridge so no need for ice delivery unless we were going to mix drinks and you can not complain about be taken a little if you are a drunk, I never did.
I did receive a package at the Post office and was asked to come in, it weighed 40 pounds and they could not haul it out on a motcy and wanted to know what was in it, I told them that it was stainless steel cookware with 9 thin sheets of copper encapsulated in the bottoms and I had paid $595.00 for it online and they wanted to see it, I showed them, the women Oohed about it, I took it out to my pickup and went home, but 1 time I was charged 200 baht duty on pharmacy supplements and only that one time and I have got about 12 shipments from that on line drug company.
And I am a Swede so they do not mistake me for a Thai.

Hi Bigbubba
There is another way to send stuff to thailand, one you will need to work at a little. Most Thai's living in the US understand the duty cost with sending things back to Thailand, and for a Friend, are willing to take something and pack it in their bags when flying back for a visit. Once in Thailand, your gf could meet up with them, or they can mail it to her within the Thai post system( all addressed in Thai). Many of our friends do this for us, and now with My trip coming soon, I am sending things back for them. The plus is you get to meet more Thais in your area and build a support system for when your gf comes to visit.
Good Luck
Duckman
And yes, this information might be a little late, but I hope it helps.
