What surprises me is that the Creamation is nearly four years after his death.

The only person who can light the funeral pyre is HM King Rama IX who was doing his studies overseas then. The building of royal funeral structures and mobilising the troops for rehearsal also takes time.

Amazing. The only difference I can spot between Rama VIII's funeral and the princess' is that the soldiers dress uniform hats are like plumed helmets here rather than the ones now that look like Coldsteam Guards' bearskins.
