Thanks Pailin. No, I haven't been to your temple in Dallas. You are welcome to join the festivals at our wat in Houston too.

There is a big celebration today, Sunday the 13th, in Thai Town in East Hollywood. It is not like in Thailand though, with people dumping water on everyone. This is more for farang to come and get a glimpse of Thai culture, and perhaps buy some stuff

That would have been perfect!

I was there last night and got hit with some water after midnight. Some people play around with water fights but I don't think the majority of the farangs here are going to be friendly after they get splashed.
I was invited to a similar gathering in another country, and we, the non-Thais, had been promised that there wouldn't be any water splashing. Otherwise, we wouldn't have attended the celebration. I, especially, was nursing a bad bold and cough at that time. None of us were prepared to get wet. But some idiots broke the agreement and we, the absolutely unsuspecting victims, got drenched to the bone. The incident brought so much ill humor among the guests, and in my case, ill health, too. That's how I started to stay away from Songkran.

Thanks Suzie, nice picture. I even like the judge, the one in the beautiful dress.

Default Songkran in the USA
There are more than seventy Thai temples in the USA. This really tells us that there are quite a few Thai people living in this country.

Songkran and Loy Krathong festivals are normally celebrated at the Thai temple. Most temples will clebrate Songkran for two days. On Saturday evening they have food bazaar and entertainment on stage. It is traditional to have Miss Songkran pageant.

This year my friend, AbleGator, was asked to be a judge for the beauty pageant. Gator was so excited and he felt it was a great honor. The contest started at 7:00 p.m.

Gator loves Thailand and Thai food. He can even cook Thai food. We join the festival together every year.

Well there a long way from the standard of Jennifer Hawkins, but then there is nothing wrong with the average Thai woman's looks, but then again if it was not for Jen's substantial income I would not look twice at her either.

Here are some shots from our celebration in Dallas. This year they changed our usual beauty pageant, to a pageant for those 55 and older. It was quite funny as the interview portion of the event posed to be a little bit of a challenge to some of the older women. One woman claimed she forgot her name!
