Have you ever witnessed, when driving on the roads in Bangkok or out-country, cars, motorcycles and even huge trucks such as containers almost running down the policemen who tried to stop them for a check? These vehicles ignored the policemen and just drove on accelerating, resisting the police stops. There after, the policemen only cursed and swear in the midst of traffic, arms all over, helpless.
Does that mean, if I know I am speeding and the policeman tries to stop me, I don’t care and just roar away leaving him to smell my exhaust fumes is being perfectly normal in Thailand? This is kind of ridiculous. I have been stopped for speeding many times and my conscious always made me stop to pay the THB$200 fine (with receipt issued). I asked my Thai friends about this and they said it’s the norm, police won’t track you down. Why ain’t there rules that the police cold remember your license plate and therefore arrest you at home? Is there or is there no such law in Thailand? |

Wasn't it just last year that they were parking up the cars and pick-ups because they could not afford to fill them up? When i was in Hua Hin last year I saw cops trying to flag down ppl, 3 on a bike etc, and they all just rode past but the cops didn't make any attempt to race after them. I've never seen anyone resist in Bkk tho; maybe these cops are more hardcore. |

Well, first of all, you've to make sure there's no traffic up ahead or if the police catches up with you, you gonna have to do a hell of an explaination. Why don't they try and apprehend people who do that? |

I didn't hear anything about that, They have new sedans and a lot of newer 4 door pickups plus all the older ones that the head cops use to haul theit kids to school and their wives shopping. and the sedans to run blocker with lights and sirens for VIPs in vans going down the hyways 150 KPH. but cant seem to find time to do any traffic patroling,, they could give 5 million baht in valid traffic citations and not go far enough to burn a tank or gas.
But they do hide and park a pickup or a car down the hyway from a traffic signal that is super slow out on the hyway away from everything and some do not stop or set there for the whole light cycle and then the cops run out and flag them down and give em a ticket, or get some backhand money. |

Why don't they have traffic police with motorcycles or cars with RED and BLUE lights and sirens that cruise the hyways and issue tickets for illegal and dangerous law violations such as speeding, crossing over a double solid line, driving thru safety zones, illegal light combinations and colors in place on autos, speeding, Travel the wrong way in traffic lanes, and any number of things, they could educate the drivers in just a short time to learn and obey written law and also enrich the Treasury and pay for the cars and cycles used in traffic control Plus their own wages, that is if they were not so corrupt and crooked and turned the violation fines in.
But first they would have to teach them to pay attention to flashing Red and Blue light and sirens and yield way to emergency vehixcles instead of trying to run them off of the roads. |

That's kinda funny, but don't they have police cars to chase you down? I can't say for the real reason why they don't chase the offenders but I presume no one will risk their life on a highway chase for a couple of bahts. They are afterall, there just to make some coffee money... if you know what I mean. I've never seen anyone resist in Bkk tho; maybe these cops are more hardcore. Totally irrelevant but last year I witnessed a car passed toll without paying. It slowed down at the 15 baht toll at Ngam Wong Wan and suddenly just sped off without paying. The attendant was mad and radioed someone. But I think that car got away. I thought it was funny too.... breaking the law for 15 baht.... |

Does that mean, if I know I am speeding and the policeman tries to stop me, I don’t care and just roar away leaving him to smell my exhaust fumes is being perfectly normal in Thailand? This is kind of ridiculous. I did it once on my way to Chonburi at the motorway. Was travelling around 120km/hr and out of no where, we spotted these police up front trying to slow us down. We slow down a bit towards the police and while he flagged us to the side, we "ZOOMED" away. Seeing the policemen cursed and sweared on our rear mirror was kinda funny. No, they didn't track us down till this day. |

Hmm…. Okay.. so I sort of get it now. Firstly… make sure car has V8… or V12, has very good brakes transplanted from a Skyline, Supra or something so they won’t wrap. Then, as long as it is one of those very big operations involving road blocks or what not, it is safe to stop. If encountering lone policeman on lonely roads flagging you down, he is most likely a robber. And lastly, you can escape the police who try to stop you, just make sure that you don’t run over his toes or something doing so.
Wow.. this all sounds very fun. |

Well years ago in Australia I was a passenger with my father driving and he was flagged over by the radar, I told him to go, you don't want to waist time with the cops when you got no points left. He was driving a very powerful V8 and he was not going to stop to get a fine and lose his license for having no more points left, so he accelerated very fast, also knowing the police also have a very powerful V8 as well, but we had the advantage, the police had to get in there car and accelerate, by that time we had gone down a few back streets and escaped as the police traveled in a different direction, only thing was the large ventilated discs warped form over heating and had to be replaced at a cost of about A$350 for the pair.
