I am not sure what this means but I have just received an e-mail from USCIS that our case (I-485) has been transfered to the California Service Center for processing.
Somewhat of a suprise since NC is serviced out of Texas, and where has the application been up to now? We are now just at the 90 day mark. |

I suspected the "linking of passport to your name" had something to do with name changes, but I wasn't sure. We decided to not have my wife assume my last name, something my feminest daughter approved of
![]() Have you registered your marriage with the Thai Government yet Bassai, and if so, did you have to go the LA Consulate? No, we didn't register in Thailand at the time of the marriage there, everything was a whirlwind of events, and have not given it much thought since. My focous has all been on the procceses here and aclimating her to the US. Enjoy DC, it should be very lovely this time of the year. |

Just got back from Washington DC where we registered the marriage at the Thai Embassy. An interesting excercise, to say the least.
The Thai Embassy is located on Wisconsin Avenue and K Street in Georgetown. When we arrived there on Monday morning, we found that we had actually walked passed it a number of times on Sunday evening. It was in an office block rather than a stand alone building in a compound that usually typifies a countries embassy. Talk about pre-conceptions! But the people there were exceedingly helpful and quite efficient. We got there early so that we could also get a new passport that reflected my wife's new family name. They don't actually do that, they 'endorse' the old passport. No fee, just $5.75 for the return envelope, insurance, and proof of delivery. The first time we have had something done for nothing! The registration of marriage consisted of filling out some forms in Thai, providing a marriage certificate, passports, and local ID (driving license for me and ID card for wife). It was kind of interesting translating my family history into Thai. I now have my name and my mother and fathers names in Thai script. This was also fee free except for a return envelope. The rest of the day was spent in seeing the sites. One note, we found a great Thai restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue NW just west of the K street circle. As we left Tuesday, the wife expressed a wish to see the Atlantic, so we ended up that afternoon on Virginia Beach. A sight diversion! When we arrived home this evening the total mileage was just shy of 1400 miles ![]() |

A bit pricey when you consider that I am US citizen who has paid a pretty hefty sum in taxes over the years and has had very little in return for those taxes from any level of government! You need to think of more ways to start scamming the government. That is the only way you will see a penny of your tax payments returned to you. Maybe you could form a "security" company and bid on government contracts in Iraq. 55555555
