Not easy to find the measurement/template of this paper lantern in the internet. People in the north make these lanterns to decorate temples, places when they have celebrations/religious ceremonies. It’s a religious rite of Lanna tradition (Northern tradition) about this paper lantern (it’s called Kohm Kaewn) anyway you can carry it, normally this lantern will be hung together with Dthung (Lanna flag).
This paper lantern can be made in all kinds of shapes, you can use mulberry-pulp paper, kite-making paper, light paper / or undyed cloth, the structure is made from special kind of bamboo. Many souvenir shops in the north have developed fancy lamps from this lantern. Some elders in the north are willing to teach how to make this lantern or you can buy from them. For normal paper lantern, the price is very cheap, depends on size and paper type, normally less than 100 baht each. But I don’t think they will deliver overseas. |
