I've been puzzling about this question for a while.
In a comment to this Blog: http://www.thai-blogs.com/index.php?...&pb=1#comments Oakmonster, talking about Thai children's respect for their parents wrote: ...It's cultural. It's religious. It may make no sense at all to the rest of the world. But that's just how it goes. It's all that make us Thais unique. Now I understand a little bit about Thai culture and Chinese culture, and even less about Japanese culture. Obviously there are many differences. But also similarities. I attempted to ask the question: Many Asian cultures have strong family loyalties. And Buddhism. Can you put your finger on what makes Thai different from the rest? No-one picked it up over there, so I thought it might be something interesting to discuss over here... |
