interesting question...if you are out and about, and the anthem begins to play, and there is a noticable change in behaviour of the people around you, then the answer is probably to do as the romans do ![]() |

I did, but when I realised it, the Anthem already halfway thru...... ![]() throughout the course of one's life there are always many close brushes with disaster...some live past them, others don't. I am an atheist, so I don't exactly have much else meaningful to say on that subject. ![]() |

1) Is it the Thailand National Anthem or the King's Anthem that everybody needs to put down their work and stand still until the Anthem finished ? Or both ?
2) Can the melody of these 2 Anthems be found in the internet ? 3) What will happen to a foreigner who doesn't know about this custom ? |

2) Can the melody of these 2 Anthems be found in the internet ? You will find the lyrics & listen to the song here. เพลงชาติไทย http://www.learningthai.com/songs/anthem.html (2) King Anthem is played when HM the king or HM the queen arrived and leaved. The song also played at the beginning of the play such as in Theatre and Cinema. You can listen to the song (with the lyrics) here. เพลงสรรเสริ*พระบารมี http://www.learningthai.com/kinganthem_01.htm (3) There are also another important song called สดุดีมหาราชา, I don't know its English name but the song is usually played or sung along with above 2 songs. For example, in school, in the morning after national anthem and pray, they usually sings this song. You can listen to this song here (scroll down the bottom to see its lyrics) เพลงสดุดีมหาราชา http://redirect.manager.co.th/entert...=9480000094174 All songs above plus other important Thai national songs can be downloaded from here. http://www.prd.go.th/thaisound/song.htm And as for to stand-up and give respect, I agreed with everyone already said, you should be respectful to all the songs above, with respect to your circumstances and situation, and if you don't know what to do, look around ![]() |

I imagine such a rule would apply, and I would err on the side of caution; that and it's just the nice thing to do...but if you don't know and no natives are there to emulate, then who is going to penalise you? |

Hi. I am not sure for the King's anthem, although I suspect it is treated in a similar way to the National anthem.
If you are outside when the National Anthem is played, them normally people stop and stand still and be respectful. Not inside. If you are doing something and cannot stop (maybe you are taking care of a baby or animal or there is some reason why it is not possible), you don't have to, but just try to be respectful when it is possible. If foreigners aren't aware, then it doesn't matter. It is not their anthem, but it is very nice if they take part also. Thai people will be happier if the foreigners can be respectful also, but don't get upset if they do not understand. I must admit that I always like to stand and be very respectful to the anthems. Thailand and the King are wonderful and have been so great to me. I have a deep feeling of love and respect for the country and the King. |
