Hi. Thanks for that info. Sounds well worth checking out some more.

How about the price of gas a hol compared to petrol?

How about travelling with it. One reason of buying a new car is to use it to explore some of the more remote areas of Thailand. I even dream of driving to Vietnam or maybe India one day (maybe). Is gas a hol available elsewhere? Or can I have 2 tanks and use normal petrol when I cannot get gas a hol?

Paul

Thanks again for that. Yeah - I was getting confused between gas-a-hol and NGV.

You have convinced me that gas-a-hol is worth giving a try and it sounds that I could try it in my current car.

Do you have any more info on NGV? Sorry to be a pain in the bum. I think they have something similar in Australia also and a friend used to run his car on a duel tank system, so I can ask him also when I go back for a visit next week.

Default Gas-a-hol questions
Hi, How are you all?
I recently heard that the King runs his cars on Gas-a-hol. What a wonderful man he is.
Maybe, just maybe I will be able to afford a new car soon. Can anyone provide me more info on gas-a-hol? Is the fuel easily available anywhere in Thailand? How about other neighbouring countries? How much does it cost? How far can you travel on a full tank compared to petrol and other things? Anything else?
Certainly it seems like a good idea to be moving away from petrol. I would very much appreciate any ideas and info. Thanks.

But there is no noticable dofference and for 1 baht a liter I wouldn't worry about it.

The compressed gas fuel might be OK, but if I was on the hyway all the time I wouldn't worry about that either until it is common and everyone is using it.

DanD, thats what I thought and maybe Paul1234 is too, but you can get the dual fuel setup so you can run either one, it just switches from the liquid to the gas at the intake, some folks in the states run propane/butane and carry a tank of gas in case they are somewhere that has no motor fuel for sale. But they now have cars that will also burn gasoline or ethanol with no mechanical changes too.

This is a very popular petrol alternative. I have several friends with tanks in their trunks. All of them are paranoid at the possiblity of a leak, however. A loose valve or getting hit from the back could be quite an accident.

Many taxis use it. I see them filling up their tanks often.

gas-a-hol is a ethanol additive of not more than 10% to standard gasoline, it will reduce your milage a little because you do not get good milage from ethanol[alcohol], thats the only difference and any gasoline engine will burn it thru standard carburation fine. to go above the 10% mix you will have to rejet your carb.
and alcohol additive in not good for the rubber fuel lines if left to set in them for a long period of time, like in an outboard engine that is seldom ran.
so there is no worry about getting fuel if you run pump grade gasahol, as regular standard gas is available everywhere.
I see where Dan posted same time I was,,
But a spare tank is not needed for gas a hol as my wife buys it all the time for her Honda,,if you are talking straight ethanol, then that is something all together different.but gas a hol is a premix of 10% ethanol and 90% pump gas.

But it can be put in your gas tank at any station and is 1 baht cheaper than gasoline and your engine will run it or gas so there is no worry if the station is out of it or does not stock it.

There seems to be something that you think is different from regular gasoline, they add the 10% ethanol to pump gas to save the 10% from imported oil.Thats Gas-a-hol..

If you are talking about compressed Natural Gas then there is a great difference and would take a different carburation system from a liquid fuel and I have heard that the BKK taxis are using the gas and it is called NGV or something like that,In America it is CNG.. your engine will run it but you will have to have a different tank and regulator system and maybe the standard gas tank incase you can't get it.
That takes a dual-fuel system in place of your standard injection system, and they do make such a system.
Let me know exactly what you are talking about and I will check into it for you..But Gas a hol is no different basically than pump gas.
