I'm from the USA, and had the KFC in Bangkok, and the McDonald's in Phuket. Both were good. The KFC was different than the USA but tasty. The McDonalds was the same and their fries are best. KFC doesn't have fries in the USA, just mashed potatoes and gravy. |

you can get vaccinated against hepatitis A, it's on all websites for visitors that it's highly recommended. it lasts one year, but if you get a booster, you'll be safe for at least 5 years.
same goes for typhoid fever. the only time I got food poisoning in Thailand was NOT after eating at the street vendors', but in a fancy pizza restaurant! it was the most expensive and poshest meal of my time in Thailand. a Thai friend wanted to try pizza, never had it before, luckily he got away with it, but I ended up hospitalised for two days, with a view on Doi Suthep and magnificent rice soups three times a day. so, this experience has influenced my opinion on what is safe and what is not.... I would be happy if I had the chance to cook for myself a few times a week, to me Thai food is delicious but not versatile enough, it's the variations of five or six really excellent flavours. if I have had enough of ricericerice and noodlesnoodlesnoodles, I still prefer a pizza to KFC or McDon crap. |

All the time I see how clean the street venders are, but I think that the reason their food is so clean and tasty is the thich covering of flies that keep the dirt and dust caused by dog crap and spit and ground to a fine powder from passing cars and foot traffic off it. When I said "some" resturaunts, I really did mean some. Simply because lots of us eat at street vendors daily. There really isn't anything to be afraid of, concerning street vendors as a whole. Feel free to try new foods and snacks from them. There are vendors that most would not eat at, just look before you order. A barbeque in Australia or a kitchen with an open screen door, trying to get all that heat out, could have flies too.... People traveling to Thailand really DON'T have to avoid small resturaunts with tables by the road or carts selling snacks. Just use your own judgement. To answer your question,, I was in Pattaya/chonburi and in Tuy Hua RSVN Thanks. Do you know how? Bad water? Where is your pond? |

Also if you dont like MK you could try Hotpot cause I always had a more enjoyable meal there...bit cheaper I think as well mmmm lovely Suki. |

ARA; Thats strange, I went to Carrefour McD. in CM almost daily as I had my daughter and she liked their ice cream and fries, and I did see a lot of Thai's eating hamburgers, same when we went to Pattaya a few weeks ago, we met my friend who lives there at a McD and it was full of Thai's eating Hamburgers. but i do not see it here as we don't have one in my town, closest one would be phetsanulouk I think. But a lot of em eating KFC tho.

No I don't really know how or for sure where. If you eat a bowl of beans, you are never sure which one made you fart.
And there is a link to a fotki site in my profile page with pix of the pond and some other stuff around here., I would like to post the link on my SIG line, but don't know how to get it there. |

I do not like Thai food, I have eaten it in the USA and it wasn't to bad but I don't like it here and for sure never eat at a street vender's,,They are way to damn nasty to suit me, when I was young and drunk most of the time I ate anywhere, but never again.
I had cholera and hepatitis all in one year so am a little more choosy where and what I eat. Here we mostly eat at home and since I found a good importer we eat a lot of beef and seafood that doesn't come from water so contaminated that only certain kinds of fish can live in it, if Thai seafood is banned in most foreign markets because of the water I sure ain't gonna eat it here where their is no health laws,,well they got em but enforcement is the same as all other laws except the money you must have to visit or live here, that law is strictly enforced. |

How very right you are, my wife cooks thai when ever she wants to, but would rather have me cook and she knows it gonna be farang food, farang style with farang spices [if I can get em]
I like Korean food and Mexican food as well as any in the world, like most chinese and fillipino, indian is not bad along with most mid east food, But I can live on american food exclusively. Nothing like wrapping around a nice thich quality beef steak, mashed potatoes, sawmill gravy and some pinto beans and peas, carrots and corn, my Thai family eats that as well as any Thai food. Impossible to get a good pizza in Thailand, I have tried it in CM, Pattaya and BKK, and if you served that pizza in any resturant in america, they would burn your place down. The worst I have ever had was right here in Phetchabun at a Thai Pizza Co. shop, which is the only one in town. We are a small town with a KFC and that is all for farang food.[+ the TPC shop of coarse But you couldn't call that farang or food for that matter.] And just because food is nasty and dirty does not mean that you will get sick, or getting sick does not mean that the food was dirty or nasty, If some one blew his nose on your hamburger and you ate it does not mean you will get sick,[unless you find out about it] The main reason I don't eat from vendors or in most Thai eaterys is because they are not clean and the fact that I do not like the flavors or textures of Thai cuisine. http://public.fotki.com/KevinN/thailand_pictures/ |

After reading Richards blogs on Thai Manners, I did notice, I got a very deep curtsey type wai at KFC, I not know, if the reason was, the servers were very young, and they were respecting there elders, they recognized my royal status or this was standard practice at Seacon Square KFC but I was very impressed at there service if not there food. At MK Restaurants, they just give a small wai.

I find Thai Kentucky to be quite different from what I am used to in other countries, and unfortunately it doesn't compare favourably.
One good thing that I can say about both KFC and Mc Donalds in Thailand is that they both provide sauce (ketchup) for the fries. As to which has better fries, it's all a matter of personal preference isn't it? Mc have the thin ones and Kentucky have the thinker more "chip"-like fries. |

I have to side with dirk3 on this one. I rarely eat food farang at home, and I am sure not going to eat it in Thailand. The last time I ate McDonalds I became physically ill. I threw up the first Big Mac and threw away the second. Paul's idea of eating food from the vendors is the best alternative. IMHO

I had KFC in Thailand once, and it was very bony, not much meat and a lot more crispy spices to hide the poor quality, altogether it was of very poor standard compared with the Australian version, although the French fries were of the same quality as Australia.
I have never had McDonalds in Thailand, so I will not comment. Instead of McDonald and KFC I prefer Thailand's own Restaurant chain, MK Restaurants, it is far better quality but it is a bit on the pricey side. I have also been to many cheap Thai Restaurants in Thailand and there great, good value for money. Next time I go to Thailand, I'm going to take Richard's advise from Thai Blog's and try some more of the street venders food, as I here that is very good value and very tasty. |
