The last time I was in Thailand, I noticing all the new housing developments, and the fact that car accommodation attached to these houses was completely open apart from having a roof, there are no walls apart from where the roof is attached to the house, no roller or tilter door, just poles holding up a roof. I was thinking, why do Thai people build an elaborate roof structures, at great expense for there car port and not go to the little extra expense of adding walls and a door, to protect there valuable car from the elements, as car ports don't protect cars, when the sun is at an angle, and wind and rain is coming from the side. In Australia, generally Car accommodation is a completely enclosed Garage often with a remote controlled door.
Now this got me thinking, Why do Thai's do this. Is the reason, Thai people spend so much money on a car, in comparison to there income, they want to impress the neighbors, that they have a car by having it on display. Now what are your opinion's ![]() |

I would suspect so that it was for show. If you got it flaunt it right? Also, since there are usually fences around houses and having a garage door would make it that much more work just to get out. Well, I also think Thai people also have a thing for not using a room, as oppose to a space, within thier house.
My $0.02 anyways |

Probibly all of the above, just like the RED plate on new cars, kinda a status thing which is so important here.
But also can you imagine how hot it would be in an enclosed room such as a regular garage?? And the roof does make it better to get from the car to the house during monsoon rains and gives you at least a place to open or close an umbrella when getting in or out of your car when not connected directly to a door into the house. |
