Sawadee, Acharn Richard. Welcome to my topic. I really appreciate how you've been a major part in the movement of Srinai net and all. Many congratulations and tons of respect for you.

Yes, it's so great for Gor to win that award. Put him and Thailand on the mark. (Please pass him my best wishes.) I noticed the info on the award some time after I read his story. The thing is that his is not a conventional weblog. But I've learnt a lot from reading his webpage/weblog. I learnt to change what I was looking for, because probably the blogging tools that are available don't suit Thais. This also helped me see the limitations of the western blogging community. I have since found a couple of personal Thai webpages that have characteristics of "blogs". But in the blogging world (called blogosphere, BTW), they won't be counted as blogs.

"All about Thailand Forum" had me started thinking about the possible nature of group blogs as an evolution of conventional blogging. But then the format would have to be easy use and copied many times in different topics, and used by different types of users for it to be a blogging convention.

I found a similar webpage built for the Lao community,Lao Hub. I wonder if they were influenced by this forum.

There's also DiaryHub, which actually got recorded in the blogging world. A remarkable piece of work, done by another remarkable young Thai. But observing the way it is used, I see also that it is used differently.

So I really need help to look up this use of the internet in Thailand for me. Any leads always welcome. Many thanks.

Default Web "logs" in thailand
Hello everyone,

I am interested to learn about how the use of the internet in Thailand is growing. I am especially interested in the phenomenum in what is called "blogging". I have my own blog which I started recently and have since been looking for Thai blogs by Thais. I have found some blogs that are written by foreignors but I don't find those interesting. So if anyone can send me some leads about where I can find some Thai blogs and how, who is blogging from Thailand, I'd appreciate it very much, thank you.

I also think it would be great if Srinai.web could develop a blogging tool for use in Thailand, it certainly has a lot of growth potential and would exponentially increase the number of its users.

Cheers,
Nui T.

Rcalaimo,

Welcome!

Exactly what my dear brother said. Imagine my tears.

I guess it is a speciality for us writing geeks. It is definitely time-consuming and can border on the obssessive side, as another of my friends remarked and my husband seconded! I insisted, "It's called 'tenacity', 'single-minded', 'commitment', 'determination'...." (Well, you get the idea.)

A True Dream of Thailand

I found this blog last year. It's by a Canadian girl who went to Thailand as a foreign exchange student. She's still there actually. It's pretty interesting to read.

It seems I started a subject that is not so interesting, so I find myself talking to myself. Well, I guess I should just be persistent. I did some hard work by tediously looking through several google pages. And here are some blogs I found in case anyone is interested to check them out. The advantage for starting the topic was that I had to follow up. It actually became an incentive for me to take extra effort to find these blogs. I'm happy to present you with my collection:

blogwise: List of blogs in ThailandThis was a directory, that actually didn't have many "Thai" blogs. But who knows it might grow.

"The voices in my head"A bit slow to download the whole page, but worth the wait to see the pictures she's posted. Has references to other blogs.Thai.

"Just my thought" Thai.

"Stories from the life of Stuart G. Towns". Not Thai.

by Ron Morris, great source of news, and good pictures. Not Thai, but passionate about Thailand and its mass transit system.

Piyawat's a new blogger and updates slowly. Thai.

"The House of Random Crap", Thai-American who moved to Thailand. Actually not crappy at all, quite intense. Has references to other Thai blogs.

"Wanderlustress" I think she's Thai, she certainly travels!

SOMMAIRE Not a Thai blog, but a blog (of sorts) by His Majesty Sihanouk. I couldn't help wishing that our King or Princess Sirindhorn blogged. I'm sure it'd be an instant hit, but I guess it wouldn't fit our Thai customs.

So I hope you try out some of these links. Again, if anybody could supply me with more links (because several eyes are always better than one), I would really, really be grateful. Thank you.

Trangam, don't worry I'm not upset you asked, more glad you did, in fact. Really, I can tell you, half a year ago, I also didn't know what it was.

It's like a webpage (follow the links given, and you'll see some examples), where the service-provider gives you a ready-made tool to make it easy for you to simply use their format and you have a ready-made webpage for you to use at once. And they host your webpage or "blog" for free as well. Your part would be to simply fill that page with words, or some people fill it with pictures, some are filling it with links to sounds and songs, some are starting to experiment with VDO clips. You could add new stuff everyday, if you're up to it, or once in a couple of months. The things you "log" in are recorded on your page in a chronological order. What you write today will go on top of what you wrote yesterday, and so on.

The program I use is provided for FREE, called BLOGGER. So you can try it without any expense. You will only have to register and start writing. If you are a person with a lot to say, it's entertaining and challenging. The rewards are that you've expressed yourself and somebody on the other side of the world just might discover your blog and find that you've got exactly the same interests so if you allow, he or she will start commenting on your blog and you might be able to build yourself a community of like-minded people.

BTW, www.diaryhub.com offers a free thai blogging tool, created single-handed by one persistent, enterprising young Thai (17 yrs old). Pls check it out.

It is still a relatively new thing. As a blogger myself, I find the tools (and the medium) fails to achieve what I want to do, but if I wait around, I won't get anything written, right? If anyone starts a blog because of happening upon this page, I would jump around in joy. Please consider this space an open space to advertise your blog, OK? Because I know how lonely it is to start out on your own. So if you need company to encourage you, ask here.

May all our gamlangjai be with you
May that unique kwampenthai be with you wherever you go
Bless you Smiaw, for your blessings. You're one of the souls on the other side of the world that makes me feel that it is all great fun!

I've seen that before in awe --- the unbelievable Thai "will power" from a MBA(USA) graduate , an investment banker in Hongkong . Well , it surely takes time (sweats, tears and money too) to grow --- but what a growth! That Thai-initiated site is now a global wonder to computer gamers like me.

I don't actually know whether that is blogging , just check out on "Home of the underdogs"
http://www.the-underdogs.org/

Good work! Globalwoman .

I realize that many of us are just not "globalwoman" enough to go that way for one reason or another. However , I am very sure that all the blessings are being showered upon you (implicitly) --- although nobody is saying it out.

May the global force be with you
May all our gamlangjai be with you
May that unique kwampenthai be with you wherever you go

Well , to quote from one of Mike's translations :
yud fan gor pai mai thung
If you stop dreaming , you will never reach your goal

Good luck , Globalwoman . We all love you for doing this .

Smiaw, thanks for giving me gamlangjai with the above link. I enjoyed reading the site's history. Technically, it's more a website than a blog because but it is definitely pretty unique. What work went into it! That's real persistence. Being the true Sagittarius (that is, more happy-go-lucky) that I am, can't help but envy it creator.

The part that touched me the most was how he found true friends, like-minded people via the internet through his efforts. For someone who is fascinated with the effects of media, stories like "the underdog" is a demonstration of the real effects of the internet, that is, its effect in creating social networks. Thanks for the story.
