one farang's point however as steve said, you must be aware that aproximative english leads very often to some incomprehension, AFAIC it hapens many times.

Pretty much the same really, but the waitresses are usually a far finer looking bunch than the ghostlike golden-oldies found back home and darned friendlier too! and not expecting you to cough up a massive tip almost the same price as the meal for the service of some sullen server like in the States. You can like in the west ask the waiter anything i guess about a night on the town and where to find a cheapo beer etc... but you will find that the standard of English here is well.. could be improved!

Differences;

In polite Thai form something should be passed by both hands and not one as in the west.

Another polite Thai form is that when a younger or servicer passes someone to the guest ie. food that person ought to lower his/her head thus keeping the head below the guest ie. the waitress will like kneel on the floor won passing the guest his food. You can see this today every day at every school ie. student>teacher or waitress>customer at a fancy restaurant.

Unlike in the west where the waiter will ask "How would u care for your steak?" Here you may well be asked to the likes of "Would you like it spicy?" or "How sour would you like it ?"etc..

does anyone can tell me what thai food service style and hospitality are like? in other words, when we dine in a Thai restaurant, how would the waiter or waitress servce their customers? in what way? what attitude? and what help they are likely to offer to the diners? that is, something about the service.
i am doing a project on that, and it's a pretty difficult topic as most website i found rarely mention issue about food service style. i hope i can get help here~~thanks a lot.
