Default Looking for a thai name
Hi...

I'm really crazy about everything re: Thai and frankly speaking, I'm not so sure why (even my parents couldn't understand it and some of my friends think that I'm a Thai freak) I just fell in love with Thai since I was in the elementary school.

I might sound a little bit funny or strange, but I really want to have a Thai name. I know that most of the Thai people usually go to the temples/monks for asking a name for their children. Beside that I believe that a name can give good/bad luck.

I think I might need to go to Thailand to get a Thai name, but I'm clueless... Does anyone have a suggestion for me?

thanx

You can get a Thai name by yourself. Nowadays Thai people would like to choose a name by themselves. There are lots of guide books to read how to get a name which have good meaning and giving good luck. It depends on your date of birth and the time when you were born.

My stepdaughters are named Aritaya and Lakhana, but their nicknames are Rot and Bang, respectively. Benjawan, my wife's name, is a more common name for a Thai lady.

Hi BigRed,

would be very happy if you can get me the website for choosing auspicious Thai names.
Actually, I have found a website that offer a service to find the best Thai name according to the numerical and taksa astronomical sciences but unfortunately, it's written in Thai and I can't understand it.

Thanks...

I know there are online resources for choosing auspicious names for your children in Thailand, I'm not sure if any are in English though. I'll e-mail my friend who recently chose a name for his daughter this way and ask. By the way he chose Bualuang, which I think means something like 'Royal Lotus Flower'.
