There are quite a few language schools around for learning Thai. You won't have a problem.
http://www.learningthai.com/schools/index.html They usually advertise in the Bangkok Post and The Nation. It will probably cost you 100-400 baht per hour depending on whether you are studying as a group or alone. As for working, it is not easy as a foreigner to get a job. Most people working for international companies are recruited in their home country. It is possible to be an English teacher, but to get a work permit you need a degree and you should preferably be a native English speaker. |

My advice would be -
1) come visit LOS for a few weeks and see if it suits your taste. This would include culture, weather and food. 2) go back to swiss get some degree and a good job. Every year end, visit LOS again. Don't rush things as you are still young and i bet your mom would be worried sick if you are far away. Explorer |

Hello everyone. My name is Alex, I'm a 19 years old student from Switzerland and I'll finish High school next year.
I've always dreamt of going to thailand once so I asked my Thai friend whom I know by the internet for quite some time now. She told me if I wanted to go to thailand for travelling I could live at her place, which I think is so nice (does anyone know pashasongkra street? is that area OK?). I also asked her about possibilities on learning Thai there or maybe even some international Universities. She said that there were international Universities indeed and also schools to make your english perfect if you want to become an english teacher there. But my mother on the other hand says that too many people are unemploayed in Thailand and that it'd be impossible for me to find a job or a place at University/school.... So I dont know how to deal with that and I thought I'd ask you. My friend also said that there were language schools for foreigners to learn thai too, but she couldnt give me more details on that. Does anyone in here know if those schools have a good reputation and if I could plan something in Bangkok in my future? It'd be my dream to do that!!! regards, Alex P.s. if you've got any resources about the fights in the southern provinces of thailand you can mail them to me, I'm doing a presentation at school. |

Hi Alex,
I don't know much about Bangkok and job searching, but I do know there is are quite a few International schools. Try using the search function on the top of this page to search for International Schools. I am 18 and plan on heading to Bangkok University after visiting in the north, this summer. To give you an idea http://www.bu.ac.th/english/ has some information on their Int. school. Do you know what you would like to study? Chulalongkorn has a good program as well, and probably offers the most diversity in courses. Dan |
